Was there something supposed to be included with it, like a cd, since it came in a plastic bag? My bag was torn to shreds.

P.S. I got my new CMJ today. :D

Sometimes mags will be wrapped in plastic just to hold a one-sheet-of-paper ad. It pisses me off, because it just winds up in the garbage, adding to the 100,000 billion plastic bags we throw away each year.

My guess is that it was there just to protect the mag. Hope I'm wrong. 8)

I enjoy the writing in it. I just started subscribing to fulfil the void I have had in my mailbox regarding music magazines, since CMJ and Magnet have become so sparse.

On a side note, I have been getting Rolling Stone, and I want no part of that. I flip thru it pretty fast and then throw it in a corner.

Give Resonance --> http://www.resonancemag.com <-- a try. If you eBay the 3 free CDs it comes with (Low's Great Destroyer is one of the choices), the subscription pays for itself.

Klosterman isn't disgusting. The Spin 20 isn't disgusting.

Get some focus and respect your damn elders boy, just b/c you are sitting in a damn dorm room in Oregon doesn't mean you have shit.

Enjoy your evening.

P.S. I check out your blog from time to time and dig it; you're a bright kid. Keep it up.

Oh, I am not paying for Rolling Stone, it just showed up. I bet some Obner boarder sent it to me as a prank, haha.

pardon, "still live at home"

my point is, that spin is decent for a couple things, and they give it away on subscriptions for less than a dollar an issue....

plus ive "read" it for 16+ years, so put it in context......

edit: contra: what do you think of the HST tribute Rolling Stone?

I haven't even attempted to start reading it. Should I?

I don't really know shit about HST apart from the movie adaptation of Fear and Loathing.

wow. this guy has been by hero and my nemesis and a [sic] friend (in the since that we feel a kinhip to artists and musicians and writers that we love) of mine for ny on fifteen years.

I've been blocking it out since he offed himself, but i just realized, reading Jann Wenner's opening piece, that, one of my true heroes, really is gone....

i don't know what you dig on contra, but pick up a tattered paperback of "The Great Shark Hunt", "Songs of the Doomed", or "Fear And Loathing On The Campaign Trail '72" for pennies and get back to me. Or PM and I'll mail you one, partner.......

Did I, or did I not, in this issue, see that Hyde from that 70's show is Tone 40?!? Please tell me I'm wrong.

This is what happened when my subscription to Spin ran out.

Timmy, I've found that it often comes in the plastic bag just to hold an add (as stated) or renewal card.

Yep, no freebies in that issue. Also, didja see the quote from Oberst about living in Texas? As in, "I'd put a gun to my head before I'd move to your state!"

It was in the header, something like "Hip, Young, Scientologist, etc" but I had to put it down and didn't read more than a paragraph into it, so it's a cliffhanger for me till I get home. Damn that Spin and their tongue-in-cheekery!

Can anyone confirm or deny?

Asking if Hyde is a Scientologist, or if the heading of that article on him is misleading.

Somehow I got a free subscription, and this month's issue with Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day on the cover, is worth a look.

They do a match-ups with current musicians and their idols. Each interviewing each other.

BJ Armstrong - Paul Westerberg

Britt Daniel - Ray Davies

Kevin Drew - J Mascis

Charlotte Gainsbourg - Kim Gordon

Allison Goldfrapp - Debbie Harry

Matt Berninger - Frank Black

Ted Leo - Paul Weller

Gerald Way - Iggy Pop

Sharon Jones - Mavis Staples

Interesting takes on things and some good insight into musical careers.

Also, as a sidebar Spin sent me a "renewal" for 3 years of Spin for $14.95. 36 issues. Dang. Must really be scrappin' these days.

I mentioned this in the monthly random thread about 2 weeks ago, but I don't think anybody saw it there.

I didn't catch that this was an ancient thread, until I saw a post from Balls Mahoney.
