In the absence of a home computer this week I totally missed out on "Stagger Lee Week" on Honey, Were You Been So Long?, a fantastic pre-war blues mp3blog. Anyway, he's posted something like 50 different verstions of Stagger Lee-related songs up there, from Mississippi John Hurt to Ma Rainey to Nick Cave and James Brown's versions. It's totally worth checking out, especially if you're not that famliar with the story (yes, this actually did happen) or just interested in the mythology of the whole thing like me. So there's that...

Thanks, Cotton. I had never heard the story until a couple of months ago when a local college dj did a short Stagger Lee set.
