Holy fucking sick. That's what live music can be! Their show here last night was the best I've seen since Dirty Three an April and a half ago. How often do we witness performances that are just listless reiterations of a band's recorded work? With Winter Hymn Country Hymn Secret Hymn the Do Makes composed a gorgeous album that by design allows for much versatility in its performance; in all honesty, they stuck last night pretty well to the path of that recording, but it sounded so amazing: it was impassioned and inspired, delicate, but totally raucus at times. Actually, all along I was thinking "this is great, this is great", and then it just fucking exploded, during a song I can't name for you now. I lost my mind briefly - haven't felt that way at a show in a LONG time - and the Do Makes were then elevated to some other level of my appreciation that only a few bands have reached by way of the stage.
