I'm really liking this one. Improves on their EP from last year, although I wish they'd included "You Like White Women, I Like Cigarettes".

Still on my first listen (HERE). Buddy of mine saw them in NYC over the weekend and was turned on to them by his pal that works at Matador. I have no doubt that there will be plenty of hype surrounding them.

Looking in the Shadows: The Raincoats

Later day, 1996, release by The Raincoats is much more polished and produced than their earlier work but I think it sounds just fine. Quirky, electronic-tinged pop with a dark side wouldn't be an entirely inaccurate description. This one certainly wasn't an effort to rest on their laurels with.

Willamette: always in postscript

I enjoyed their Echo Park release from last year and this one is more of the same or at least quite similar if a bit shorter. String based drone, lots of atmospheric swells, very laid back. Kind of like a more fuzzy and concise Stars of the Lid on this one. Doesn't seem to meander as much as Echo Park, but not sure with this sound if that's a good thing.

Thanks for highlighting Jim Ford a while back PT. He fills the void when I'm burnt out on Gram Parsons.
