Obs at large,
Anyone out there recommend me some lesser-known but quality power/retro pop that I can put on my radio show in a couple weeks?
I'm thinking Sloan, Moods For Moderns, The Sights, Fletcher Pratt, Cheap Trick... crap like that.

I might even do an all power pop show if I can scrounge up enough to fill 2 hrs.

Toss me band names, record names, track names or any combinations thereof.

You alls rock.

Helicopter Helicopter :: Wild Dogs With X-Ray Eyes | 2003
The Posies :: Frosting On The Beater | 1993
The Posies :: Amazing Disgrace | 1996
Superdrag :: Regretfully Yours | 1996
Nada Surf :: Let Go | 2002
Sugar :: Copper Blue | 1992

Big Star, Teenage Fanclub of course; Chris Mars' solo album, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades isn't bad, but nothing great either; maybe the Only Ones? I'd also throw the Oranges Band in there, too.

Dude! "Talented Socialites" is a key track on one of my favorite mixes ever.
And the rest of your suggestions (save for Hootie) ... NOICE!

Have you ever listened to these two? Yes, there are some horns, but they tend to be a little stronger and hooky tendencies in both.

Talk about poppy stuff with horns, throw on "Scream Dracula, Scream!" by Rocket From The Crypt. Holy crap, that whole thing is a sing-along. I know it's a good deal more produced than anything else they did, but that's just fine with me.

And, I agree on that LTJ album - poppy as all getout.

You need to start your set with one of these, and end with the other...

Raspberries - Go All the Way
Jellyfish - Joining a Fan Club

As long as you do this, we can be friends. 2 hours of power pop is easy.

I don't consider most of what's in this thread power pop, but those are two great power pop songs. How about these artists:

Big Star
Badfinger
Teenage Fanclub
Owsley
The Posies
Supergrass
Frisbie

Oh, and Material Issue, Nick Lowe, and Matthew Sweet are good power pop recommendations too.

First and foremost, this:

The Katies - S/T

I can't pimp these guys enough. Any tracks on it would do
but these are my fav.

"Powerkiss", "Drowner", "Miss Melodrama, Girl", "Tappin' Out" and "Jesus Pick".

They have a new band When Breathing Stops and from that the
track "Freeway".

http://artists.iuma.com/site-bin/mp3gen ... reeway.mp3

Rubyhorse : "Fell On Bad Days"
Bleu : "I Won't Go Hollywood" - "Somebody Else"
Superdrag : "Bright Pavilions"
Starling : "If I Could Do" - "Die Hard Crush" - Happy Together"
The Carnations : "I've Got Spies"
Campfire Girls : "Pedestal" - "Imcomplete"
Pris : "Doobie Down Down"
The Posies : "Definite Door"
Teenage Fanclub : "Sparky's Dream"
Man Of The Year : "Silver Dollar"
Two Minute Miracles : "Rayon Queen, Nylon Dream"

The Rest:

Favorita : "Seven Comforts"
Owsley : "I'm Alright"
Starkicker : "Neil Armstrong"
Pluto : "Paste"
The Special Guests : "Out Of This Dream"
The Mustard Seeds : "Coming Up Roses"
The Incredible Moses Leroy : "Anthem"
Kent : "If You Were Here"
Skycycle : "God Only Knows"
The Weakerthans : "Exiles Among You"
Buffalo Tom : "Summer"

I got so much more but these are the essentials for me.

I've hyped these albums a gazillion times before, but since I didn't see them mentioned...anything from :

TSAR : self-titled debut album

Damone : "From The Attic"

I also 2nd the Knack, Material Issue, & Marshall Crenshaw nods.
