I'm not sure that I really like MM more, but I've certainly listened to them more, including a stint in college where I listened to the moon and Antarctica almost everyday for a month or so before sleeping. Now that I'm more happy in general though I don't listen as much, but I still like it a lot.

Pixies. I never started enjoying MM until they polished up and started appearing in commercials.

Pixies. And it's not even close.

for some reason I always assume everyone on this board is older than me, and assumed this would be 100% pixies.

I liked MM a lot for a few months but grew board quickly.

This is one of those times when you say "well, if MM broke up after their first four albums..."

Pixies have a 100% solid run.

I'm younger so that might be it. Some of my friends really liked modest mouse, so I was exposed to it more than the pixies. In some ways I like Pixies more, but could relate to mm music on a more emotional level. Love the pixies, but the mouse is go to stuff for when I feel down.

Yeah.

Like I realize that Modest Mouse owe a huge debt to the Pixies, but I've probably listened to Lonesome Crowded West and Building Nothing Out of Something more than any Pixies album.

Those came out when I was finishing high school/starting college. Surfer Rosa and Doolittle came out when I was in elementary school. I love those albums, but I don't have the same kind of attachment.

I just missed the Pixies first time around and enjoy what I've heard in retrospect, but it's doesn't have the emotional attachments I have to MM's output over the 00s.

Ditto to both of these - was coming to write pretty much the same thing myself. :)

I discovered both right around the same time (maybe the Pixies earlier, by a hair). At the time, Modest Mouse had just released Moon and Antarctica, which I didn't really get into apart from a couple of songs. They reeled me in a bit more with the EP that followed M&A, but I didn't feel as if I really liked them until Good News. I really enjoyed that record, and the follow up, We Were Dead. But yeah, Pixies win.

I like them both a lot, but Modest Mouse made The Lonesome Crowded West.

I've probably listened to that album more than all of the Pixies output put together, with the exception of Doolittle. That exception made me vote Pixies. For me Doolittle + Trompe Le Monde > LCW + M&A

I've got nothing against Modest Mouse. In fact, I've even seen them live and had a good time considering it was one of those "Hey, I've got an extra ticket" situations. But I've never listened to one of their albums in it's entirety and I don't see that changing. Pixies all the way.

Love both bands, but the edge goes to Modest Mouse, b/c I love more of their material than the Pixies. Truthfully, the Lonesome Crowded West and Trompe Le Monde are two of my favorite albums of all time, so this is a really tough one.

Pixies. But this isn't a fair comparison because I'd honestly rather talk about how MM moves me than rehash the same old same old about the Pixies being bigger than the Stones and the Beatles put together when I was in high school.

Modest Mouse may have more pretty good songs but The Pixies have 5-6 classics of which I never tire.

Advantage: Pixies
