This was pretty awesome.

Great acting, but hard to follow and moved at a snails pace.

Sunday, saw Albert Nobbs. Went in expecting it to be weird, but good fun. Brendan Gleeson as the slumming-it, muff-diving-it, hotel physician was a scene-stealer... Though, of course, Close & Mc Teer make the movie.

Tuesday, it was A Dangerous Method. I suppose it will do well as an Intro Psych lesson for a slow day/week, but not memorable as a film. Did enjoy Keira Knightley's tryout for a female-lead in a reimagining of The Mask, though.

The only other Lars Von Trier film I'd seen was Antichrist, and this one looses the gruesomeness but is otherwise very identifiable as Trier. Actually, Trier reminds me a lot of Darron Aronofsky--the cinematography and dialogue really seemed reminiscent of The Wrestler's aesthetic (not topic, though, nor anything else...just the way the cameras move and dialogue comes across). What Trier does, though, is make an immensely satisfying film, which is something Aronofsky is very hit-or-miss with.

^That's a gorgeous poster for The Innkeepers. Haven't heard of it before but the synopsis sounds right up my ally. Thanks for the heads-up!

Finally saw Drive. It was fucking awesome. Like a Silent Movie version of Grand Theft Auto + a love story + syzurp. What a bizarro joint/

Tinker Tailor is veddy British, but very good. I realize what Z was saying back when he saw it. That didn't bother me so much as comparing it to the miniseries version (and the book) and not being able to remember who the traitor was.

Moneyball was boring. I fell asleep. Didn't see anything particularly interesting in the acting or the plot beyond "ohg you cam wim basgeballb games wif dese stacks" very good.

Yeah, this was fantastic. Gorgeous cinematography and fantastic acting and plot. Some interesting stylistic choices that worked out well, such as showing the ending at the beginning. Definitely puts you in a good mindset for the movie, and makes you focus more on the characters, since they're all fucked anyway. I definitely see some parallels to Aronofsky, the film reminded me a lot of The Fountain in a lot of ways.

i like this poster a bit more.

anyways, it was a really slow movie except for the last half hour but if you've seen any of ti west's movies before they're all like that. i enjoyed it and there were some good scares but it's not my favorite movie of his.

Just saw Mission Impossible and loved it. Brad Bird is now not just one of the best animation directors, but one of the best working commercial directors, period.
And Simon Pegg was perfect.

I got to go to a screening of Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie last night. Tim and Eric were there for a Q & A session afterwards.

It was, of course, insane. Hilarious, retarded, and disturbing. I want to see it again.

There was a Steve Brule short before the movie. I don't know if this is the case with the On Demand release (which is already out there) or if it's just for the theatrical release (3/2) or what. It was hilarious, too. The first few minutes of it were killing me.

And the Q & A session was pretty funny, too. People were asking pretty dumb questions and getting duly ridiculed by Tim and Eric. (In their defense it was really hard to think of any questions to ask after watching a movie like that.) But they didn't really seem mean or anything, and it was all in good fun and was really funny. As expected they seem really genuine, smart, and down-to-earth in person.

Shame was really really good.

It's pretty gratuitous...I went to an afternoon show and an older couple walked out within about 30 minutes, and another older lady walked out as soon as he went into the gay club.

Steve McQueen is one of my new favorite film makers...I wouldn't classify either Hunger or Shame as "great" films, but McQueen has great films in him. Looking forward to following his career.

Saw it yesterday afternoon at the Oriental. Not as good as advertised, but had moments... & the possible family sex abuse history for the two siblings, never stated but certainly hinted, made the show even weirder than Albert Nobbs. Bu unlike that, not in a good way.

At least there was Carey Mulligan bush to offset Fassbender phallus.

i don't recall if anyone walked out when i saw it, but a couple in the row in front of me nervously giggled and talked through the most gratuitous scenes, especially during the threesome.

Coincidence... I saw it on Thursday afternoon at the Oriental as well. Was good, with flashes of brilliance. Looking forward to seeing "A Separation" at the Downer soon.

this is a hell of a movie.

i really liked how it was constructed in that it lays out situations and puts the audience in a fairly neutral spot where you and the person you go with might empathize with characters on opposite sides of an issue at different points throughout its second half. it's phenomenal writing.

i've been sick as shit. so i've just been watching movies for the past three days. all you film fiends have probably already seen them so i won't worry about spoilering shit.

SOURCE CODE - this was ok. i really like Jake Gyllenhall but he was pretty annoying while getting mindfucked in the beginning.

MOON - really enjoyed this one. i like movies with a small cast. i thought it looked great and came together well for such a small-budget movie.

GHOST RIDER - this was pretty dumb! and when Cage became a flaming skull it looked dumb too!

SUNSHINE - I guess I'm on a British sci-fi kick. This had some really epic moments, some surprises, and a good cast. Also did well with the impossible task of conveying how powerful the sun is!

Now I'm gonna watch Planet of the Apes (Marky Mark version) or something like that unless ya'll have a better recommendation.

Watched Rum Diary. There is a good movie somewhere inside of this movie, even if it was just outtakes of Amber Heard nekkid.

They alternate between the story of a straight journalist and his slow seduction and subsequent disgust with a land raping developer, and the slapstick hijinks of a slightly fictionalized proto-Thompson.

That, and it's pretty slow. But all in all I like it better than I thought I might - and it is shot beautifully.

Coming to post that femrabbit and I sat down and watched this evening. Same thoughts. Wasn't bad, but wasn't as good as F&LiLV. Hope this did enough to bolster what Depp said he'd like to do--more HST films. Would love to see a take on the Hell's Angels. Giovanni Ribissi led to a constant smile on my face. We rented from Netflix--so no special features :(

This was extremely entertaining. Stupid, but fun.
And I really like Donald Glover as an actor.
