Normally there's, like, one band I've heard of when you post this. This year, nada.

I know Dr. Frank (Mr. T Experience) and the only other band I recognize is Mean Jeans because I got one of their cassettes from Burger Records.

I thought Thursday was playing it and then I realized it was just the name of the day.

So yep. None.

You should all recognize all the bands that have played previous years from my previous threads!

I was jacked to think Thursday was playing this event, as well. But, alas...

As it is, I recognize a few. For one, isn't Emily's Army the band with the child of Billie Joe Armstrong?

(&, when do they tour with the band with Jeff Tweedy's kid? The American Aquarium Idiot Drinker Jamboree!)

I know of Dan Vapid and the Cheats, and that's it. He was in Screeching Weasel and a few other bands.

I recognize some of those names. Every once and a while, I will randomly order a bunch of shit from Interpunk, just because I feel like traditional punk doesn't get a lot of play in the music resources I normally seek out. I have a Smokejumper split with the Pillowfights, which I mainly bought for this awesome cover:

I like the Pillowfights side better.

I like Dead Mechanical, and I've at least heard of Dear Landlord, the Dopamines, and House Boat.

Anyway, have fun.

I've heard of roughly half the bands and like a decent amount of them. Not enough to make a trek out to the coast for a few days of a fest, but certainly enough to check them out when/if they swing by my town. I've seen Teenage Bottle Rocket, Dopamines, Parasites, Dear Landlord, and Copyrights over the last couple years. I'd like to see Beatnik Termites and Night Birds. Looks like a fun weekend.

Are we all playing the percent game? 85-90% for me. Night Birds seem a bit aggressive for this set, though I'm sure it' smore about Ergs connections.

In the past Insub has had Deep Sleep, John Walsh, Agent Orange, and a bunch other "aggressive" bands. Night Birds actually played two years ago as well. I'll try to throw up some youtubes in a bit.

RE: seeing some of these bands - there will be some follow-up shows for a little "tour" supporting Larry's comp. 1 in Philly and 2 in NYC. Dear Landlord, Copyrights, Dopamines, House Boat, and Mean Jeans will be playing on Sunday the 24th. NYC shows will be the 25th and 26th, though I don't know any more details.

Well, this was pretty amazing. So much fun. This is what I saw. All photos by my friend Marc from Germany!

THURSDAY

Dead Mechanical
Image

Mikey Erg
Image

Dr. Frank of MTX backed by the Mixtapes. He played with them, and some solo songs, and with them again.
Image

There's me in the light grey t-shirt with my finger up and a smile on my face probably singing to something off Love Is Dead.
Image

FRIDAY
Smokejumper played a fun set, then brought Jesse (of many Berkley bands) and Danny (of the Pillowfights) on stage and did a Blatz cover. It was some next level shit.
Image

The Unlovables were a highlight. Hallie normally plays bass as well, but this time just sang. She jumped into the crowd and started a sing/dance along for most of the set.
Image

The old (but handsome) PA punk band Plow United played. They were great! I had an album and some 7"s in the late 90s that I enjoyed but this is the first time I ever saw them. So good!
Image

The crowd surfing Dave Nobody eventually made it to that black pole, then climbed it and did a back flip back into the crowd. He was pretty much out of commission after that. This is Teenage Bottlerocket.
Image

SATURDAY pics aren't up yet.

Looks like a lot of fun. Did Dr. Frank play "Danny Partridge" or "Velveeta" (my two favorite MTX songs)?

Haha, no. I think the only pre-Our Bodies stuff was Gilman Street, She's No Rocket Scientist, and I Love You, But You're Standing On My Foot.

Here are some bands I saw on SATURDAY of Insub fest!

The Candy Hearts (poppy girlie band)
Image

The Isotopes (from Vancouver - currently the best punk rock baseball bands out there)
Image

Be My Doppelganger (midwest punk garage pop)
Image

Dear Landlord
Image

Lipstick Homicide
Image

Mixtapes (currently have the top spot in my 2012 Album of the Year).
Image

House Boat (i think i posted in the twentytwelve thread about their new 12" single with one 9-minute pop punk song. They played it live which I'm still giddy about. this is during the hardcore part and the pandemonium that accompanied)
Image

The Dopamines (currrently sitting at #2 on my year-end list)
Image

Night Birds (my #2 band from last year. this is the new guitarist, who rips)
Image

The Copyrights!
Image

People and beer flying around just about sums it all up

How the new Dopamines compare with their last one?

Any word on a new Dear Landlord one of these years?
