I did something stupid. Last week I bought used the DVD of Le Peuple Migrateur (Winged Migration), a supposedly great documentary about birds by the French cinematographer Jacques Perrin.

The trouble is I neglected to see that I bought Le French version that won't play on either of my DVD players. Fuck a duck.

Any suggestions on what I should do? The store won't take it back and as appealing as it sounds, I ain't moving to France.

depending on what your DVD player is, you might be able to do somethings to make it region free.

let us know how it works out if you do fix it.

Try googleing your DVD player model # along with terms like "region free". Quite a few DVDs players on the market have "hacks" that you can do to set your player from whatever region it is based in to region zero. If your player can do it you'll have to do something like hold down the menu button, push channel up and stand on your head (ala up/up/down/down/left/right/left/right/B/A/Start for all of your Contra fans).

you might want to try it on your computer, if it has a dvd player. i have a friend who does it all the time with european and asian dvds, and they work.

Like N. Soul says, it should play on your computer DVD player.

WinXP comes with a player that lets you switch back and forth between NTSC and PAL like 5 times or something.

Open lid. Throw in garbage.

Worst. Advice. Ever.

I have an older computer that's running Windows 98 SE and no, it does not have a DVD player.

I tried googling my DVD player number + "region-free" but all got was a message board with a thousand other people asking about the same thing. I might as well stand on my head.

Right now I'm on terminal hold with Panasonic's 1-800 customer service number.
