But Roberts has given the Crossroads GPS crew a talking-point: Obama raised taxes!

Bah! Bah!

my fellow hoosiers paid for my uninsured $4500 Bennett's fracture in 2001

based on my feed, it seems most of my fellow hoosiers would like to have kept it that way

Would this be the American Healthcare Act, in which case we have an AHA moment.

CNN already has commercials with overweight white women talking to each other about how dangerous the "President's healthcare act" is...

Great, we have Republican healthcare reform with continuing wealth being leveraged to private for-profit corporations in the "wisdom" of the free market. On balance it will fire up the Radical Right, but vindicate Obama in the mushy middle... I don't think this will make a difference in the November election.

Me, either, Harry. Both sides will spin it to the point that will almost become a non-issue. Not in reality, but politically.

I'm curious if the Tea Baggers will refuse to buy health insurance in protest.

its not surprising to me that the Court upheld it, but it is a bit suprising to me that they couldnt find 5 justices to go along with the commerce clause argument...guess I overestimated Kennedy.

also pretty interesting how Roberts dealt with this; guess he is interested in his legacy after all.

Team Obama is having plenty of fun right now. Here's a snippet from a fundraising email blast they just sent out (via BBC News): "It's a good day for the President. It's a good day for Mitt Romney, who had his individual mandate upheld in court. But more importantly, it's a great day for the millions of Americans that benefit from reforms in the Affordable Care Act. It's a celebration. Be merry."

I think this is big for the election as having the cornerstone of his legislative agenda being declared illegal would have been very damaging.

Not that I think the law is great since anything short of single payer is just more clusterfuckery. But I think politically this was very important.

I see that because of ACA (or Obamacare as you and your boys with fishhooks on their caps call it) it's more likely that a child who didn't have insurance two days ago will be more likely to be covered once all the provisions are in place. I also see that:

1. That $23,000 will not be counted against a lifetime cap on that insurance policy, because lifetime caps are eliminated by ACA.

2. Rogneeb Jr. is able to stay on her parents' health insurance until age 26 if she needs to.

3. Insurance companies are no longer permitted to drop Rogneeb Jr. just because she gets sick and needs coverage.

4. Insurance companies are no longer permitted to cover Rogneeb Jr. minus her pre-existing adenoid/adenoid-related conditions.

There's more there, and I don't think ACA goes far enough, including creating some semblance of pricing transparency in the medical field. But to throw the baby out with the bathwater is pretty lazy. Making it possible to unlink health insurance from an employer creates a lot of freedom, especially for people who have gotten sick through no fault of their own. People with pre-existing conditions (like fucking Cancer) can't work at small companies or start-ups and use their health benefits -- it will bankrupt the company. But if you know you can get insurance through another means like the exchanges, then you can work whereever you please. That's a big bonus for the individual, for the economy and society.
