So, I will be in Phili on Wed for a show. Hoping to get there a little early to hopefully explore some record stores...
Show is at Johnny Brenda's at 1201 N. Frankford

Anything within walking distance?

not sure where JBs is, I moved just before it opened.

However, if a.k.a. music is open they're great...though knowing you, you should take a quick drive over to south street and hit the relapse store if its still open...

it's like a whole new world over there since you left, though I have no advice on great stores in the neighborhood since I don't hang out there much.

Truth. But it's a nice little place, get there early enough and you can eat dinner there.

Johnny Brenda's is probably the best venue in Philly (note the spelling there), but it's in Fishtown, which is still in the process of gentrification, or at least was the last time I was in town. AKA music isn't too far away (on N 2nd) and is probably my favorite record store in the city.

at JBs, make sure you get the grilled squid and some Yards or whatever is hand-pumped.

I just moved here a couple weeks ago so I'm in no way an authoritative source on this, but I think the only place within walking distance is Tequila Sunrise, just five or so blocks away. If you feel like driving/taking the subway, there's Repo Records on South Street, Long in the Tooth near 20th and Sansom (I haven't been yet but I've heard good things), and Beautiful World Syndicate (leans more towards punk, garage, etc. -- there's two locations, one in South Philly and one in West Philly).

JBs is the best venue in town, and just a great place to see a show. The only other place not mentioned so far is the Record Exchange at 5th & South. If I were into vinyl, that's where I'd go.

The Trocadero is in China town, I don't really have any advice because i'm a novice for the area and people have passionate opinions on where to go that I can't weigh in on. Places i've been taken to have been great, but I don't remember their names.

I haven't been by there in years, but Sounds of Market is pretty sweet and nearby and seems to be still open

Dov, I went downstairs during the echo & the bunnymen set to at least listen to the Twilight Singers set...they sounded fucking amazing. Met Dulli later on as he was walking around during the end of Echo's set.

get there early for Margot & the Nuclear So and Sos

Damn...
I cannot wait...
What was Dulli like? I turned down a few occasions to go up and meet him, cause I have heard he is really 'hit or miss' with the fans, although since he got sober, I hear he is a lot more approachable.

My drive is about about 2 hours (during rush hour), so I am leaving early and hopefully will have time to kill there from 4-5pm on.

best I could do with the time I had was FYE at the mall across the street.
picked up the Tyler, the Creator CD.

Troc has Blue Moon on tap which was the death of me.
hung out with the editor of Decibel all night which was nice...don't get to see him often.

ride home was about 90 minutes but felt 3x longer...
