And, here we go...again. Most computer models have this coming right down our throats. Loogs will probably get a taste as well. Keep us in your thoughts.

Yeah, they're evacuating parts of the coast here, but it does appear to have veered west a bit since the early trajectory predictions.

I've actually done some hurricane prep for once: canned goods, water, batteries and flashlights, and ammunition.

Dammit. I forgot the ammunition.

We'd gladly take some of that rain up here, if you want to send it our way. I'd sort of like to avoid having to face the dust bowl scenario anytime soon.

You are in my thoughts, folks. Hope that it doesn't hit too hard.
Stay safe.

Should this track further west than New Orleans (say...Galveston, Texas), that would be particularly eerie. This is due to the fact that the infamous "1900 storm" (the hurricane that nearly wiped that island city off the map and killed well over 6,000 people) was chronicled in a book titled "Isaac's Storm" (in reference to the NWS staffer onsite at the time, Isaac Cline) AND the hurricane that nearly RE-wiped Galveston off the map (in 2008) was named Ike, which is short for "Isaac."

Yeah, I was hoping for a more Easterly track. We could use the rain.

Oh well, stay safe, y'all.

It's still just a Tropical Storm - looks like it may not even strengthen into a hurricane.

Good news, or at least not quite as bad news, depending on perspective.

Of course, flooding remains a major concern, with the storm having slowed considerably.

yeah, that's just classic.

and the flooding will definitely be the real issue. it dumped heavily on Palm Beach, not so bad in Broward (Fort Lauderdale) where I live.

When I was in FLA for a couple of them, that was the worst part. Most buildings down there are built to withstand the storms, but the flooding just is horrendous.

Yep. Slowing down, but not strengthening. That's a good thing, but they are projecting between 12-20" of rain for us over the next few days.

I can't picture 20 inches of rain.

Wow! Is she evacuating?

Squirg, that's just a reflection of winds increasing from low 70's to 75, which is a very weak Cat 1. When I went to bed last night they were forecasting that strengthening to Cat 2 was likely. That 74 mph threshold is what changed the storm from TS to hurricane.
