Would Lanegan be the first non-Brit to win if Ballad gets it?

well

let's hope they don't lame out and give it to something like FF again.

thom doesn't deserve it, he's already got enough press.

i hope it goes to one of the "unknowns" on that list that could use the boost.

Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan deserve it most, and hopefully they get it.

This award is an enigma to me.

It's supposed to be industry people and artists but they've nominated shit like the Spice Girls in the past.

Also, didn't that Thom Yorke just come out and that Hawley record was out a year ago?

Did they just say "something involving Radiohead has come out, it has to be on there"?

*disclaimer- I have Eraser but I haven't listened to it yet.

Tom Yorke released July 10, 2006.
Hawley released September 5, 2005.

Yeah, I'm not sure what eligibility dates they're using, but the gap here is still within 12 months.

i believe that eligibility is simply the twelve months preceding the nomination announcement.

The last time I heard or thought about Scritti Politti was in high school. I really didn't know they were still making music much less Mercury prize-worthy music. Do they still sound like this?!?

I like some of that Isobel Campbell album.

I don't care at all for any of the others listed.

Cole's Corner is the best album out of the bunch. Followed by This Is My Demo.

I was actually being facetious. The last time I had even heard of them was Cupid and Psyche 85, but it would be consistent with some of the crappy bands who've gotten it over the last few years. Read more here.

The muse album is good. But, worthy of an award of any kind, I think not.

This award has gone downhill the past few years. A little bit more of a popularity contest then previously. That being said - Arctic Monkeys will probably win this.

Last year they selected Antony and the Johnsons who certainly seemed to be the underdog considering the more radio-friendly other groups nominated. If you look at the history though, they seem to vacillate between commercial and obscure-ish.
