i'm taking my son there for spring break because he wants to see some train stuff. i was wondering if anyone knew where the arts district was, or anything else cultural and cool. i'm pretty sure i can find all the nature stuff.

I'm sensing some tongue in cheek here, but I'll bite:

The Leonardo is currently hosting the Mummies of the World exhibit. It's awesome.
http://www.theleonardo.org
This is the Place Heritage Park
http://www.thisistheplace.org
Natural History Museum of Utah
http://www.nhmu.utah.edu
Hill Aerospace Museum (this is a must-see, IMO)
http://www.hill.af.mil/library/museum/

If you're coming to Utah for trains, I'm assuming you're going to be in Ogden:

http://www.theunionstation.org

And the Golden Spike National Historic Site
http://www.nps.gov/gosp/index.htm

And the Heber Valley Railroad
http://www.hebervalleyrr.org/

Hope you enjoy your visit!

drive back to ogden for the night

WEDNESDAY

camping on Antelope Island PM

THURSDAY

SLC:

Breweries: Squatters, Red Rock. The Bayou has the best beer selection in town.

Restaurants:
Red Iguana (best Mexican in town, very good)
Mazza (Middle Eastern cuisine, excellent)
Settebello - great pizza
Pig & A Jelly Jar - comfort food at it's best. The chicken & waffles.

Ogden:
(I live equidistant between SLC and Ogden, so when I go out for food, I usually go to SLC. I've been to a couple of these and they were just fine).

Brewery: Roosters Brewing Co. (good food too).

Restaurants:
Jasoh
Bistro 258
Tony's Pizza
Javiers

Argentine Corner (actually in Clearfield) - great dive with authentic Argentine food. Excellent.

Yeah. Roosters is in Ogden, not SLC.

The Bayou has a great beer selection--food isn't so great.

marco got most of the places. highly recc settebello for a meal - pretty reasonably priced for good pizza. i also think the best meal i've had there was at The Copper Onion - both places are essentially SF style restuarants, so maybe that's why I was partial.

There's a good tiny record store in the little arts / hipster district as you begin to head a little bit east. I don't remember it's name, but I got a bunch of good funk/soul/country records there in the billy g style. I know they were struggling financially, so hopefully it's still a good place.

My #1 recc though is Les Madeleines, the bakery. Just for the Kouing Aman which is the best pastry (and best kouing aman) i've had. You'll think "$7 for a pastry?!" and then you'll just cum everywhere.

also toots, there's this diner/restuarant/supper club I went to in the southern end of the city where it quickly turns to white trash suburbia and is all auto shops and pawn shops. that diner is awesome. not even good food, but just some dumb fuckin people and hilarious decor. can't for the life of me think of what it's called though, so that doesn't help.

but overall, i think SLC is a legit place. Thought about moving there for a time.

also i don't know if you or your son are into sports at all, but if his spring break lines up at all with the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney, that'd be fun to go to.

Yes they will, at least the Utah Brewers Cooperative beers (Wasatch/Squatters)
The state law is that beer can only be 4% ABV.

Damn. That was a long time ago Bob. I think it was the Desert Edge Brewery at Trolley Square, though.

Nine years, two marriages, one divorce, three jobs, one Van Houten Special suicide flat, & sixty pounds ago, eh?

Actually, four jobs and 112 pounds ago. But otherwise, you were spot on...ESPECIALLY about the Kirk Van Houten apartment.

duly noted! really looking forward to this trip.

so on the ghost town tip....anything within an hour, hour and a half of the city in any direction?

i know this is probably the equivalent of people asking me where james dean's old house is, or where they make garfield, but help me out :)

112 pounds? Shit. That's 1/3 of a fracturedtake.

Also: you now weigh as much as I do. (After my own 40 lbs drop.)

As of this morning, I weigh 250.8 lbs. The lowest I've gotten so far has been 249.6, which was back on 2/28. When I started last 3/18, I was at 362.

Rate of loss has slowed considerably month-to-month. I only lost 3.2 lbs. in February, and have actually gained 1.2 lbs. so far in March.

250 was my revised goal, so I have reached my objective, for all intents and purposes. But I think additional effort could result in potentially losing another 15 or so. Hard to imagine ever being able to get much lower than 235, given my height (6'5") and frame/bone structure.

I was 185 lbs. in high school, but basically looked like an Ethiopian with the world's worst case of vitiligo.
