Anyone else listening to this? My favorite 2013 release so far: I need more ambience in my life, and this is really hitting the spot. It might bore some of you to tears, and that's OK too.

The Independent (UK Wrote:
Centralia is by far the most satisfying release to date by the Brooklyn-based minimalist post-rock duo Mountains.

Its seven long tracks, averaging between nine and 10 minutes apiece, unhurriedly and meticulously blend discrete acoustic and electronic elements into sublime, meditative passages whose gradual metamorphoses are all but subliminal. "Sand" is typical: opening with gentle, feathery swells of synth tones, it builds slowly shifting dunes of organ and bowed-string tones . The obvious debt to legendary minimalist Terry Riley is most apparent in the interlacing keyboard undulations of "Circular C", but it's a debt handsomely repaid throughout Centralia in the sheer care and subtlety with which Mountains construct these engrossing pieces.

It may not be one for the impatient listener - Centralia can drone a little in places, and almost touches on music reminiscent of that you’d relax to while having a deep tissue massage. But take the time to listen properly and you’ll realise it’s beautifully crafted, as initial melodies gradually evolve, layering synth upon synth upon strings, until it flowers into a precise whole.

centralia is the name of a ghost town in central PA that has had an underground coal mine fire burning under it since the 60s or 70s.

not sure if that's how it's used here, but cool story

bro

Yeah, I've been listening to it, but it hasn't really done a lot for me to be honest. It's nice, though. May be a grower.

I've read about that or saw a doc on it or both. Smoke still coming out of the ground and stuff. It is a weird cool story. Lot of the old timers refuse to leave. Some houses still burn up.
