Finally getting around to the new Nick Cave and digging it. I was turned off by Grinderman but I like this. As a more mature performer I much prefer this more subdued Nick Cave.

Barn Owl: V

New Barn Owl. They change things up here while keeping the mood similar. The guitars are augmented with a lot of synths, organ drones, echo and other effects in the mix, a bit similar on the early tracks to stuff off their Shadowland EP. But they go further here and the final 17 minute track sounds as much Tangerine Dream as anything else. I like both this new Barn Owl and kind of miss the old Barn Owl at the same time. Mostly just a good listen though. This one will get played a ton this year and likely beyond. Still waiting for my copy with the bonus disc to come in the mail, although mail stop for vacation begins tomorrow so I'll not get to hear that until I get back but looking forward to hear what's on there.

eccentric soul - the capsoul label

i haven't seen the place beyond the pines yet but the soundtrack seems like it'd be a better fit for an italian giallo or something.

Flaming Lips - The Terror

The Lips getting back to the weird? This sounds like it could be a companion piece to...........something (Embryonic maybe?) but not a proper album. Like, this should've just been the experimental bonus disc to that last album.

Strangely interesting for a bit but wears out it's welcome pretty quickly (Particularly the 13 minutes of "You Lust").

Can't see this stuff shining amid their live theatrics.
