I'm glad OKC is getting an NBA team, but I feel horrible for the life-long Sonics fans. Neither the owners nor Seattle handled things very well.
If it's any consolation, maybe they'll get the Grizzlies if they decide to leave Memphis.

my friend seems to think that Portland is fucked, and they will move north. Any validity to this fear?

I think the Blazers owner is rich enough to decide where he wants his team to play.

Also, yeah this sucks for Sonics fans but its not the first time nor will it be the last that this sort of thing has happened.

This is a very sad day for Sonic fans. I'm literally a life long fan---they came to Seattle the year I was born. I am disgusted that billionaire team owners can throw their weight and money around and hijack 40 year old franchises from their cities.

Fuck David Stern, Clay Bennett and Howard Schultz. :wavefinger:

Damn. Knew this was on the horizon.

Quote:
Bennett said his franchise would create duplicate championship banners and trophies, leaving one set in Seattle and using the second set for undetermined purposes in Oklahoma City.

whaaaaaaa? If your team goes to a new city, then you don't get the trophies nor banners. Sorry.

Howard Schultz huh? The CEO of Starbucks who is closing 600 of their stores while they are still opening new stores? Nice.

Nope he sold the team. Owner is now Clay Bennett, and surprise surprise, he's from OKC. However, Schultz is suing Bennett on the grounds that he didn't hold up a bargain that the two of them agreed upon. Schultz was actually trying to get control of the team again.

Why bother relocating? They should just dismantle the team. Only about 2 guys on that team are NBA-level anyway.

Nick Collison could make most NBA rosters as well. I'd take him over Ridnour, Watson and Wilkins, actually.

More than two.

Yeah I like Collison too. He still has a whole bunch of untapped potential. Never going to be a top tier play, but a nice 2nd tier perhaps...

Wait...no Swift. What an oversight :) Loved seeing those jerseys down at the largest outdoor 3-on-3 tournament in the world last weekend. Then i broke my ankle....not so fun.

With the Rose Garden, what, ten years on, & the Blazers locked into a lease until 2020 (I think), it would be difficult for Allen to move the team to his hometown. Especially if he wants to avoid the Clay Bennett Treatment.

& he can't outrun anybody, either; what, with the MS.

I could see Portland doing something like when the Packers played four games per year in Milwaukee, taking five or six up to Seattle, but other than that, no dice.

Baltimore Colts
Brooklyn Dodgers
Boston... Milwaukee... Braves
Minnesota North Stars

All long-time, well-established franchises with at least one full generation of fans that got left behind.

Thanks. I knew I was forgetting someone big. But... point was made, no?

St. Louis (football) Cardinals, too. But that's really a baseball town, more than anything else.

They did a great job of supporting the Hornets.OKC actually has a bigger population than:
Sacramento,Portland,Minneapolis,New Orleans,Orlando,Salt Lake City.Oakland,Cleveland,and surprisingly,Atlanta.
Granted, the metropolitan area probably isn't as big as most.
But with the price of oil going through the roof, there's a bunch of newly wealthy Okies with some disposable income.

Any guesses on a name? Meth-heads? Fighting Baptists? Noodlers?
