are there other movies like Battle Royale or Mean Creek that are about kids but have really dark plots or subplots? i mean, i'm sure that there are, but i'm drawing a blank, other than Stand by Me or something. and are there any good adaptations of lord of the flies? that seems to be the standard for this sort of fare.

Babe 2: Pig In the City
Or even the original "Babe", for that matter. But the 2nd one is WAY dark (both physically and mood-wise), but is still one of the great films of the 1990's. Underrecognized, but great.

How is Children Of the Corn a kid's movie?

It is about kids, but I certainly wouldn't let my son or daughter watch until they're teenagers.

Hence, the "dark" part of Chase's thread title.

Yes, but a "kids movie" is a movie intended for kids.

A "dark kids movie" would be Willie Wonka or The Neverending Story or The Secret Of Roan Innish or The Lord Of The Flies.

Children Of The Corn is a horror movie that happens to have kids in it.

I could be wrong but I think Chase is looking for movies about kids, not for kids.

that was more of what i was looking for. not to put words in your mouth, but can i take your lack of objections to Battle Royale and Mean Creek to say that you would let preteens watch these sort of movies? i'm curious as to where that line is with you.

Haven't seen either one of them. Probably no.

Then he should watch the orginal version of Village Of The Damned and The Lady In White (which is like A Christmas Story if bad things happened in it)
