i like this, but i keep thinking to myself "why is this any better than The Twilight Singers?" - whom i admittedly grew pretty tired of.

considering he writes like 90% of the music, the only difference really is that the Whigs use less 'electronic' elements and beats...much more organic and guitar based....

new record rules.

The Sound - Jeopardy
I was still poopin my pants when this was released (~1980) but it's a solid post-punk(?) "find" propagated by a mpls label selling the repress fer cheapskies (modern-radio.com).
// sold out in a week. :(

Image
Skoal Kodiak - Kryptonym Bodliak (Load Records, 2012)
Comfortably close to tribal dance.

Image
Blasted Canyons - s/t (Castleface, 2011)
A darker, more coherent version of the Coachwhips.

Youth Avoiders - s/t (Build Me A Bomb, 2013)
Punk rock from France with a semblance to the early Arrivals records.

Image

Jungbluth - Part Ache (Halo of Flies, 2013)
Gruff hardcore with elements of post-rock from Germany. I usually hate this style of music but the raw energy of this album wins me over.

Ex-Cult - s/t (Goner, 2012)
Garagey punk from Memphis recorded in mono.

Fiery Furnaces - EP (Rough Trade, 2004)

Image
Lamps - s/t (#2) (In the Red, 2007)
Best band.

I happen to like that date. Thanks for your input, as always.

Obnox - Louder Space (12XU, 2014)

Image
Rad Payoff - The Good, the Rad and the Ugly (No Breaks, 2014)

Image
The Sands - Hotel and Casino (Houseplant, 2014)

For the namedroppers:
Quote:
"Hotel & Casino" is the power-pop culmination of songs from J. Grant (Full Sun, Pink Razors) and J. Groth (Coke Dares, Magnolia E/Co) flushed out with help and low-end expertise from M. Bridavsky (Russian Recording) and drummer/hitmaker J. Morrow.

This album is pretty fucking good. I just counted, there are 7 songs I was immediately hooked on. That's a lot for one album.

Anyone who's too cool to enjoy this, go crawl into a hole and die alone already.
