I went to Lake Como just a few months ago as the last stop on my honeymoon. Unfortunately, my wife got sick so we didn't end up doing much. We stayed in Tavernola, near Como (south end of the west leg). The coolest thing was, while out walking, I saw two separate bird fights: one swan-on-swan battle and one involving some ducks trying to drown another duck (and potentially some trying to help the victim, it was hard to tell). So look out for that I guess.

Been to Como. You have to go! We stayed in some old monastery that required a ski left to get to. It was fucking incredible. I also had the best meal of my life at a little restaurant up in the mountains.

If you end up going I'll get you the names...

HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

We hoped to take the ferry up to Bellagio on our second day there, but as mentioned my wife got sick so she stayed in bed and I wandered around on foot and watched nature. Next time.

Have a great time. It's beautiful over there.

From my pop:

We stayed in a town called Varenna. We chose it because it was relatively charming, small, quiet, and less touristy. Access is easy via train or car. and there is a ferry that can take you across the lake to Bellagio for action, if you want it.

Stayed in a hotel called eremio gaudio, in a suite called Teolinda. fabulous view. hotel is nothing fancy but the views are breathtaking and well worth the stay. Probably the most magnificent spot for a honeymoon that I can think of. doesn't have to be that particular suite, but you must have a balcony with a view. Two night stay is all you probably need.

Super restaurant called il Caminetto. Small place in the hills, no view, but run by "the master", the chef that trains all the chefs in town. He basically runs cooking classes but supplements with the restaurant. He will pick you up from the hotel and drive you to the restaurant. highly recommended.
