U2's new album gets a 5-star review in Rolling Stone
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/album ... e-20140911

I mean, I'm not gonna backlash and say that it sucks, because it doesn't. It's one of their better albums in a long time.
But, instant classic?
Album of the year?
No.

RS: still sucking corporate cock as eagerly as ever.

I didn't even realize I had this album on my phone until today. Kinda weird. I mean it's not downloaded onto it, but it's really bizarre that everybody with an iPhone just had this album sneak onto their phone whether they want it or not.

Pretty effective, I guess. There's some chance I may actually listen to it because of that. Otherwise there was probably no chance at all.

Seems like the most benign and least creepy thing that could be put on your phone without your knowledge if you think about it.

Of course I have Android so we probably got the new Three Dog Night album.

By updating the old Columbia House Record Club scam to the digital age, U2 and their Cupertino buddies have created a new avenue of opt-out cultural transmission, removing even the miniscule effort it takes to go to a website and click “Download.”

Pitchfork gave it a 4.6

I don't use Apple so I will thankfully never have to hear it.

I DO have an iphone, but I checked it, and it still contains 0.00% U2.

Are looking at only stuff that's on your phone's HD and not stuff that's on the cloud?

When I go into Music on my phone and look through Artists, sure enough, there's U2, 1 album, 11 tracks. Beside the album title and each track is the little cloud symbol signifying that I can download the whole thing to my phone. I did nothing to opt in to this, and I'm not sure if there's any way to remove it. It isn't really on my phone taking up space since it's on the cloud, and I don't use my phone to listen to music anyway so I don't really care.

If you're the type that likes to just play your whole library on shuffle then these U2 songs will start coming up unless you go into settings and turn off "Show All Music". This will mean that you only see music that has been downloaded to your phone. There doesn't seem to be any way to remove just the U2 album without doing that, though.

Again, this doesn't really affect me personaly, but it's sort of interesting as an "invasion", harmless as it may be.

In the era of DVR's, downloading and file sharing, be prepared to be invaded lots more--big companies (and I think we can all agree that U2 is in fact a big company) aren't going down without a fight.

For the easy-targetness of the Bhoys from Dublin, they actually almost succeeded in inspiring a thread on Obner.

May the frost never afflict your spuds.

This album is the most like Joshua Tree since that album. I think I like it so much because it's less experimental. I just wish they would turn down Bono's mic a little bit. They need to let their riffs and jams come out a little bit more. I feel like the production is all about amping up his vocals as part of U2's signature/recognition and it drowns out/detracts from the music. There are some questionable Bono passion screams that the album could have done without.

But as a whole, I am really digging it.
