instead of posting these finds in the random thread I shall post them here. These are some odd bits I found at the re-cycle depot yesterday, 7" are 50p + LP's a £1 best find of the day was this beautiful 12" single by Macedonian group Anastasia another nice find was the original UK pressing of this album, the track-listing says it all really featuring a track called Morrissey and The Russian Sailor sadly not about the man himself late 60's UK budget issue of the 1959 original in a totally different sleeve if your grandad was from Norfolk and recorded a folk LP it would probably have sounded like this the pick of the singles, there were plenty more bird sounds 7"s released in this series by the narrator, but this is the 1st one a few nice European Folk EP's were lurking amongst the Joe Loss & Mantovani LP's I thought this might be a comedy record, alas it is just a dry read through by the author of Parkinson's Law an upbeat and typically silly tune sung with great enthusiasm by Spike, with his take on Silent Night on the flip |

I guess it's a sign that the local Polish community in town are culling their collections now as I am finding a lot more European vinyl in the charity shops. I bumped into a guy on his way back from a shop this morning clutching a pile of weird Polish folk and psych albums (as well as a copy of This is Magic Mixture!) which he had just found in the local Red Cross, by the time I got there it was only 7"s left but there are more LP's going out on Thursday apparently. Among these mostly mid 60's singles were some original Jerry Lee Lewis and Jackie Wilson discs, but these were the the more unusual finds. 4 track EP issued by Polish Airways in the 60's, hear here - http://youtu.be/nLucf3yC_qk Irena Santor is a huge star in Poland, these were her first singles Bogdan Lazuka EP Tadeusz Chyla EP postcard flexi from 1973 with it's original mailer Russian cruise liner souvenir from 1980 also in the same box was this Argo Records catalogue from 1968 sadly no pictures inside but some rare items listed including Michael Garrick albums |

I picked up 3 x 'how to stop smoking' LP's this morning and as I'm posting them here I will add a few other health related albums as they go alongside them quite nicely, but I have had these heart records for yonks. This first one is really good (especially side 2) and it also has some sleeve notes which wouldn't get published today! released on Contour Records in 1972 seems there was a run of these LP's but this is the first I've seen of them, Medi-Disc Records 1970 this is the second copy I have of this however this one is signed by the Enoch Powell lookalike I've had this since the 80's but it's one of my rarer albums and a double too, released in 1968 issued in the days when drug companies gave you an LP along with your heart medicine, I am assuming they don't do that anymore nowadays? a good way to look after your heart might be to listen to Romark or cut down on the pies alternatively do it yourself with Mindpower Records side 2 is like DSOTM era Floyd without the music |

have picked up some nice bits + bobs this week, a run of Van Morrison and Roy Harper albums along with these records, it helped that 2 of my regular ladies in the charity shops have been keeping stuff by for me, so I bless them! best find of the week was this very odd album of Communist Party folk songs issued in 1979 on a red label of course, gotta love those song titles! also in the same box was this 1970 album by the ex Monkee man a nice pair of early 70's issues by the great Brazillian guitarist they may wear cheesy suits their music is pretty good, especially 'Jam If You Jamming' I have a yellow vinyl copy of this LP but it's disappeared somewhere... I'll have to keep this one as it's blue, I don't think it comes in any other colour I took a chance on this and am glad I did as it's got a lovely gentle Jazz vibe to it and it came with a sheet music insert - a private pressing 12" from 1988 I paid £1.50 for this (more than I usually do, haha) I assume it's a promo vinyl issue for one of the NME cassettes they issued in the 80's - several of which I still keep despite not owning a tape deck for over 20 years. |

picked up this lovely 10" 78rpm earlier today and can find nothing about it anywhere, anyone know more? Ron Grainer is of course the chap who went on to do the themes to The Prisoner, Dr. Who etc. |

a box came into the tip shop last week all in brown card sleeves and was just dumped on top of a pile of crap LP's and I went through and pulled 52 out - a whole run of Kinks including 'You Still Want Me' which I swear I knew nothing about. Along with Stones, Screaming Lord Sutch, The Undertakers and I offered him a fiver for the lot and he said yes as he knows fuckall about records - there were original Stones & Kinks & Searchers albums too but they were 50p each - it restores my faith that stuff is still out there if you dig* *or just happen to be bloody lucky! |

NICE! Ever come across this one? Bonus points if you do. Even more bonus points if you come across a full album from them, as they only ever recorded/released 7 tracks that I know of. (And I want more.) |

various records I have picked up at the boots/charity shops/tip over the last week or so remember skipping this in bargain bins years ago so finally bit the bullet and bought it and glad I did as it's a good compilation with all the early singles nice topical find, released on Spark Records in 1976 this was in the box alongside the 3 albums below so I kinda made the assumption they came from the same person, but who knows? 3 early albums all signed by Sheila aka Monsoon - shame the bottom of the Nada Brahma LP sleeve is damaged another good Indipop album was in there too, a compilation from 1983 with a Radio Northampton stamp on the label this caught my eye as it is an early album by Maria Muldaur of Midnight At The Oasis fame I got this as I liked the sleeve and it was 25p and flipping the sleeve discovered it is a rather excellent 12" by Momus = result! |

late December finds a great live Traffic album recorded at an Oz Benefit Concert, London in 1971 includes the great Dave Mason song : Shouldn't Have Took More Than You Gave I've always loved Spirit and although I already have this album it was nice to find one in better condition than mine, this US copy is from their mid 70's soft rock phase : Farther Along the classic Rubettes album with Sugar Baby Love on it, and it came with an actual hat, 'Wear It's 'At' geddit? this LP came in a plain white sleeve with Musical Knowledge - Aural Test written along the top, and turns out to be a one sided LP of classical music for students to identify for their CSE music exam, I found the questions really hard, so god knows what the O' Level was like! this caught my eye as it was produced by legendary Jamaican producer Coxsone Dodd and it turns out to be pretty sweet and uplifting gospel music - best find of the week Astley Dixon - Alphabet I guess this is the Rugby Union equivalent of the popular 70's Liverpool football LP Kop Choir |

a few nice finds among the chaos of the tip shop today I found the first ever Ron Grainer 78 in this same tip shop a few weeks ago and today I found his classic TV theme I have a few Butlins records but this was my first Pontins disc. The woman 2nd left looks a bit like a young Lynda Bellingham, but it can't be her can it? a private press single of poems laddie, no idea of the year of release but prob early 70's a tatty UK sleeve but one I had never seen before this may come in useful, come the glorious revolution brothers + sisters I had no idea about this but it turns out to be a reggae version of the Rolf classic the vinyl is VG but the sleeve is in beautiful condition, probably my best find of the day I didn't leave it like this, someone seriously needs to tidy up a bit! |

checked out the tip/charity/junk shops of Milton Keynes yesterday, mixed finds as usual but was most pleased with the picture flexi discs! plenty to rummage through on my first stop at Kiln Farm I couldn't leave the 3rd album by The Singing Postman especially as it looked unplayed for some reason I actually have Volume III of this series but this is the first time I've picked up #1 these 2 x pretty flexi-discs are like beautiful little side-plates and came in die-cut fold-out paper sleeves. a heavy metal Stars On 45 mix this was a sweet find, I only just finished watching the TV series recently too and am currently working my way through the 3rd Thriller series now. I had not heard of the B side programme Cover before I have another LP by Ruth Wallis but hadn't seen this before, 25p well spent in the charity shop on Stantonbury Campus 2 cuts from an album which I've never come across before but I was pleased to find this US 7" despite it's scratchy disc. listen to Why? |

Darrell Banks: Here to Stay Rare deep soul from 1968 on Stax subsiderary Volt Records. Got lucky for a quarter at Goodwill. Vinyl in perfect shape, looks like I'm the first to spin it. Bit of wear to the cover, but still quite nice shape as well. |

I found a few old record and stylus catalogues along with inserts inside some of my album finds this week along with some nice singles, nothing really rare but some are hard to find even though it was only 50p I nearly put this back in the box until just by chance I read the production credit to - A Wizard - A True Star which I can only assume is Todd Rundgren although the music doesn't sound like the sort of thing he'd normally do I love these old advertising leaflets, this one is for the Shure Stylus from 1974 two old TV shows on one 7" The Sky At Night theme brought back memories even though it's not exactly all that catchy I found this in a box of singles I won at an auction - it was full of Roy Orbison and Karl Denver records but for a winning bid of £3 the lot I was more pleased to find this private press folk 7" from 1970 than the others just some of the useful gadgets available circa 1972 thanks to the British Radio Corporation I found one of these catalogues a while ago but not in as good a condition as this one, a showcase of just some of the great early 70's rock and jazz available on Probe Records, musicassette and 8-track |

picked up a whole load of Irish Civil Rights vinyl at the tip-shop this morning, I guess they all came from the same collection too as they were all grouped together. I already had a couple of them but at £5 the lot I think it was worth it. They all date from the late 60's to the mid 70's, and some make for very grim listening (if your English) |

bloke at the market this morning had these 2 records at £2 each (both for £3) I already have a few Spiderman albums but these singles were a nice find. They both date to the mid 70's and the PoTA comic book/7" combo is fantastic! |

first couple of days of Feb have turned up a few LP's but am really looking forward to getting down on my knees in the fields when the boots begin again rather than these pretty grubby tip shops, but still managed some nice finds. it was the mere thought of a funky brass version The Exorcist theme that made me pick this up! I must have missed these Irish civil rights related LP's the other week, singalong lyrics on the rear the debut by The Tinkers on Pye not an original copy but an unplayed Fame label re-issue rear of the cover had coffee stains but the vinyl is clean and a Go Beat original one to trade on as I already have this, but someone has gaily rubbed out the price on the sticker but from my own copy luckily I know the 'Gay Price' |

One of my best days sifting through the dollar bin at a local record store in a long time. The big find is Strike Under: Immediate Action, the first record ever put out by Wax Trax! and a rare piece of vinyl from one of the earlier bands to help form the Chicago hardcore punk sound in 1980, even got one of the copies with the silk screened cover. Been wanting a copy of this forever and never thought I'd find it in the dollar bin as they usually go for some bucks. Perfect condition. Guessing this stack of records was someone from Chicago because buried in a ton of late 80s industrial singles was Thrill Kill Kult: I see Good Spirits, I see Bad Spirits full length as well. Nothing super hard to find, but in mint condition a buck was a great buy. Last one was just something for fun. Probably can find -M-: New York - London - Paris - Munich for cheap all over, but I didn't have a copy and it is a nice mint German pressing and a fun old new wave listen. |
