I did Coventry record fair over the weekend and picked up some nice bits and cleared out a lot of old vinyl 2 x boxes, one £5 the other £10 a pop. These were the albums I found, I was happy to pay £10 for the ELO as it was blue + complete with all the bits including an unused spaceship! some £1 box finds the gatefold inner of Loving Awareness shows the band in class, they soon morphed into the original Blockheads and some £5 finds this was only VG condition but plays well and has a cracking 9 min version of You Keep Me Hangin' On |

Nice find on the Maytals. My latest: Justin Love: Rock-Ola & Justin Trouble Saw a reissue of Rock-Ola the other day and considered grabbing it, but didn't as I was on bike with no way to carry, then came across this pair of originals so all's well that ends well. |

Along with a huge collection of cheap Mad Professor/Scientist/African Headcharge etc CD's which I found at the car boots this morning, there were other nice odds and ends in the fields. side 1 of this 7" from 1972 features music by Cathy Berberian who is mentioned in the Steely Dan song Your Gold Teeth from the LP Countdown to Ecstasy :"Even Cathy Berberian knows / There's one roulade she can't sing." this was a nice find but is the 1980 re-issue on Snotty Snail Records, however it still features the song Gary Bushell's Band Of The Week on the flip a run of kids EP's released in the early 70's on Kiwi Records these British Wild Life sound effects singles were a pleasant surprise as they all feature a selection of photo slides inside the booklet/gatefold sleeves a couple of classic soundtracks a stash of On-U Sounds from the BBC TV show circa 1971 best find of the day was this scarce US compilation of dopey old 78's |

Well, not a cheapie but the cheapest copy of this I've ever come across just happened to also be an unplayed copy on Wax Trax, which I then could not resist. KLF: Chill Out |

I was pleased to find these 2 old schools records earlier today, issued in 1972 on Universal Edition Records. I could find very little info about them online but they will have come with teachers books at the time of release, the one accompanying the Hear & Now single is available for £50+ on Amazon. Jonny Trunk also used 2 excerpts on this 7" for his Classroom Projects compilation album. listen to side 1 listen to side 2 other records are also available at reasonable prices This other disc is introduced by John Hosier and features music performed by St. Anne's Girls School in Southampton also in 1972. listen to side 1 listen to side 2 |

Saturday morning vinyl yields from the fields Ewan MacColl's debut 10" - I was a bit annoyed that I slightly damaged the sleeve as I was rummaging through the box I found it in but bought it anyway I took a punt on this LP on the Compact Organization label by The Suburbia Suite I have Bowie's narrated version and this makes a nice companion piece, awite mate I have several Dr Who records but had not come across this one before, and it's on Argo too odd mix of tunes and narration celebrating the history of the jeans company, came with a comic lovely EP of train songs by an ex-train driver released on Ash Records kids songs by the sister of old Jazzer, Johnny Dankworth just when I think I have a spoken word record for every occasion I find this! |

The fun thing about this find was that it came with a promotional biography and a glossy inside. James Blood Ulmer: Odyssey Music's quite nice as well. |

I've picked up some nice 7"s and 10"'s finds on my travels, nothing more than £1 a pop This was in the 25p each or 5 x £1 box at the recycling centre, I didn't realise it was so rare until I got home as I just didn't recognise the tune. Turns out to be one of the rarest Clapton 7" due to it being withdrawn by the band as the didn't like it sounding quite so fast. 1st track from their LP Surf's Up released as an A side in UK and B side in America. Early Strawbs release pre Lay Down their debut UK hit A cute American 5" single which oddly flipped Another Nail In My Heart to the B side Not from the album Quadrophenia but 'From The Musical Work' It's a bit rubbish and I don't need it but I just couldn't leave this in the box The seller wanted the princely sum of 50 pence for this ten inches of pleasure Best buy was this beautiful original 78 by MM in NM condition This 10" EP by Tom Waits was an unexpected delight too! |

tip shop finds earlier today this little beauty was 20p but I swear I never realised it was quite so rare it just looked interesting. Turns out to feature one of Jimmy Page's early session jobs and is worth a few quid. sorry but I guess I must have bought this for the sleeve great songs and poems from Derbyshire circa 1978 came complete with lyric booklet a well spent £1 for a soundtrack album to a film I've never heard of but it has a great tracklist in the same box was this LP of Olde English tunes arranged by Ray 'Funky Trumpet' Davies great Latin Allstars compilation of Bongo beats released in 1961 as if I didn't have enough sounds of birds albums now I've got an album of songs about birds by an unpronounceable band the wonderful sound of dripping, in it's original bag! charming Folk on Topic from 1962 clearly the Lovers Rock singer's debut album produced by Lloyd Charmers |

I had a tip-off at the weekend from a friend who works for a local BBC radio station that they were planning on skipping all their vinyl as "nobody here plays it anymore". Music to my ears, especially when he offered me to come down and help myself for free! It seems some radio folks had got there before me but I still dug up a lot of rare and unusual stuff, African music, Electronica, Sound FX singles from the 60's etc. They were dumping lots of studio equipment too but i know nothing of such tech and was told to leave it alone anyway. There were quite a few Folk albums too so am slowly going through those today in my cellar. The 7" singles caught my eye at the back of the BBC dungeon, I put a word in to try and nab the lovely shelves they were on but alas they had been earmarked. However... I did stumble across this wee gem, I had never seen one before and couldn't find anything about it on the Bill Nelson site apart from the 12" and CD versions but here was a near mint promo copy of this brilliant and beautiful tune. It has AA on each side of the label and the same track on each with A1 in both sides of the matrix run out grooves : listen will post more pics of finds as I dig deeper into this here pile |

These are just some of the great singles I bought at a record fair today - they came from a Music Publishers clear-out (50p each) there were a lot of unknown acetates too and plenty to sell on but these were some of my keepers demo of the first Monty Python related 7"? note the mis-spelling of Pele at last! my first and only cricket related record 1968 Argo Records promo - signed on the back by an Argo label big-wig (probably) the one and only record released by the great actress quite bizarre that when they were not releasing Queen records EMI were knocking out singles like this one sided test pressing of the TV advert by Darth Vader this single just bombed upon release B side of US issue of Coney Island Baby the original issue date caught my eye great sleeve for this French EP |
