1) I saw Mark Hamill play the Trickster on Flash yesterday.

2) You guys have all read that new Jar Jar Binks theory floating around, yes?

3) RE: Han Solo's gun - I still have the original toy gun, looks just like his in the movies. I got rid of all my childhood toys, but I kept that one.

4) Also, stealing that Porkins, asap.

Interesting little bit on the value of hand-written lyrics (of famous rock stars)

David Yow stars in a brand-new video for Wrekmeister Harmonies

Night of Your Ascension

J.R. Robinson releases his latest LP as Wrekmeister Harmonies, Night of Your Ascension, today via Thrill Jockey, and along with the epic record comes a brand-new music video staring noise-rock legend David Yow. Wrekmeister is a project whose records are known for their dark, minimalist, hypnotic drones, but on Night of Your Ascension, Robinson's assembled a cast of more than 30 names from the heavy metal and experimental world—members of the Body, Cave, Corrections House, Bloodyminded, and Anatomy of Habit are among those involved—and together, during the course of a year, created a massive, monstrous racket. Today's 12 O'Clock Track is a tiny clip from the half-hour-long title track and its aforementioned accompanying video, which features the Jesus Lizard front man covered in grime and being a world-class creep. Check it out below.

Last night I amused myself and my wife by walking into my kids' rooms and demonstrating to them how good I was at NOT DANCING:
I would walk in, and maybe make infinitesimal motions—noticeable, but just barely—with my head or shoulder, and totally deadpan, state, "I'm not dancing."
I'd do that a couple of times over the course of a minute or so, leave the room, and then come back and do the same thing.
It was tough to keep a straight face while doing so, but I did. Totally deadpan.
My wife was hysterical. My kids were annoyed and horrified. They're 14 and 16. (Actually, my oldest became moderately amused after a little bit.)
I may do it again tonight.

Hostage situation in Paris is at a show by Josh Homme's Eagles of Death Metal. Unreal. Thoughts with all there

US President Barack Obama says America will do whatever it takes to “bring these terrorists to justice”.

Yeah it's scary/crazy what is happening in Paris right now. Not sure what to make of it, with reports coming from all over from so many different sources.

You have to pick one person in that boat, then follow them the whole time, to make any sense of it. Torn between picking "pink bikini" and "yellow" as my favorite. Still fucking amazing.

Quite impressed with these, inspired to proceed with my gism equivalent.

New 'orker Wrote:
The cover of Joanna Newsom’s latest album, “Divers,” shows a hazy landscape that evokes, simultaneously, the bottom of the sea and the peak of a mountain. Craggy plants, with flowers in reds and whites, give way to dense clouds and a blue sky shining through. Like Newsom’s music, the image is disorienting, otherworldly, and enchanting in its mysteriousness. It is a photograph by the New York-based artist Kim Keever, who is known for crafting elaborate dioramas in an aquarium, then releasing pigments into the tank and taking pictures of the resulting underwater scenes. In October, Newsom told Vogue that when she first saw the image she had a fidgety feeling, as if from “drinking four cups of coffee.” “It’s like a storm that blew through,” she said. “It’s in the record now.” (Keever’s work is also featured in the music video for the album’s title song, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.)

Keever, who studied as an engineer and began his art career as a painter, has said that he draws inspiration from geology, botany, and from his own personal experiences of the natural world, seeking to create images that “sit between reality and artificiality.” He has cited the influence of his childhood on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, where he’d watch fiddler crabs march in waves along the beach by his house. That and other interactions with nature, he said, “were mind-bending experiences for me.” In addition to landscapes like the one adorning the Newsom album, Keever has made underwater series focussed on eroding mountains, birds, and a disintegrating “dog” carcass made with sticks and plaster. The images shown here, from his “Abstract” series, devote entire frames to conflagrations and billows of radiant paint.
