Really pleasantly surprised by how much I like this Deafheaven album. I didn't really like Sunbather at all.

Tribulation is good, too.

Of the two Beach House albums, I'm seeing a lot of people pick Thank Your Lucky Stars. I still prefer Depression Cherry and kind of wish they'd held off a little longer on releasing TYLS.

Are the Beach House albums significantly different? I'm thinking this is one of those times I can take two albums and splice them into one by taking the best songs from each.

Twilight, thanks for the list/links. I'll be checking this stuff out soon.

I liked both pretty much equally and it came down to liking the cover of TYLS more in the end.... :rawk:

bingo. i read one or two interviews where the band tried to play up how each record came from the same sessions but 'different headspaces' :wanker: i couldntt tell the difference, but they are enjoyable none the less.

Yeah I'm listening to Depression Cherry right now. Nice, comfortable sofa of sound.

Given that Beach House hasn't varied their sound dramatically across their entire catalog, yeah, these two albums recorded in the same year, during the same sessions, sound very similar to each other.

But I think they picked the stronger batch of songs for Depression Cherry. There's nothing on Thank Your Lucky Stars that I like as much as "Sparks" or "PPP".
