Help me compile songs about my hometown.

Off the top of my head, I've only got:

K-Os - Crabbuckit

"walking down Yonge St. on a Friday"

and The Lowest of The Low, pretty much anything off Shakespeare, but I'll go with "Just About 'The Only' Blues".

The one that first comes to mind is Bobcaygeon, by the Tragically Hip.

"That night in Toronto with its checkerboard floors
Riding on horseback and keeping order restored"

Here's one by my old band. The song is called "College Park", written about an area off of Yonge St.

download MP3

RIYL: Jawbreaker, Bum, Jimmy Eat World, Fugazi, Superchunk.

They also have "Toronto #4"

Don't forget "Good Lady Of Toronto" by Kenny Rogers

And the band Toronto must have done a song about Toronto at some point?

Then there's Greg Macpherson's "Slow Stroke"?

your mama look like carol channing
she watch the sunset on an 8" black and white tv
she's got a sister in Toronto
you got an old man out in "call me when you're drunk b.c."
he was the king of corona
dark glasses and a reason not to go back home
she fell in love with the night time
she fell in love with his fists and his cheap cologne

A damn fine song, to boot.

I'll whip out King Of Kensington quotes next. See if I don't.

Yeah, good call. I forgot about Toronto #4. That's on Music at Work, my least favourite Hip album.

Bruce Cockburn "The Coldest Night Of The Year"

It's not really the sort of place that's gonna inspire anybody to write about it.

Doesn't the song "This Beat Goes On/Switchin to Glide" by the Kings mention Tarana

Unless they plan on working at GM, I don't see the point.

And they better be hardcore punk or emo or metal, if they want to succeed as a band here. That's all the dirty Dungeon showcases.

Back on topic, I'll add Final Fantasy's The CN Tower Belongs To The Dead.

They play radio-ready blink 182 / sum 41 / simple plan pop-punk.

I wish I could remember the rest of the lyrics, but on the "Evening with Groucho" album, Groucho Marx sings a short ditty that begins "It's better to live in Toronto / Than to live in a place you don't want to..."

Three Dead Trolls In A Baggie - The Toronto Song

Funny song (except for the last line. Fuckin' Edmontonians)
