For the Self lovers on this board.

Go here bitches:

http://www.selfies.com/media/?interviews

Two long interviews to be downloaded featuring the man. Haven't listened to them yet but I'm sure there excelente in their content.

Can someone post a condensed Obner Notes version of the interviews? Just explaining what he's up to and if any new material will ever be coming out (besides songs for pet product commercials).

What happened to Ornaments and Crimes is a huge bummer.

I especially enjoy his music video for Tracy Chapman's Fast Car.

The first one's ok. Nowhere near Ornament or Porno/Grime good, but ok. Good to hear he's still making stuff.

<--- loves me some Self.

I don't think one can compare this effort to Self because Matt is working with Jeff Turzo, who was part of God Lives Underwater. It's more industrial/electro sounding than pop. As someone who loves everything Matt touches, both of these songs took repeated listens to really appreciate. This project really intrigues me, and I can't wait for the full length. Nice work, Jed on bumping this.

So Matt is encouraging everyone to remix his latest track he put up on his Myspace. The instrumental and acapella are there to download. So what is the key to a solid remix?

Changing little to nothing - almost all remixes are terrible

Ok, I can agree with your statement, but don't you like a lot of older straight up rock records? Are you a good judge of true remixes? (I'm far from one)

This in itself is worthy of its own thread.

I'm not sure what a "true" remix is and I've tried my hardest to avoid excessive exposure to remixes of tunes, but what I've heard (be it reworkings of rock/afrobeat/techno/whatever) has largely been really dull. I would think that there are some decent reworkings of "electronic" songs out there, but I have NEVER heard a good rock remix.

Stuff like that Diplo remix of Kanye West's "Gold Digger" is so terrible that it makes me angry.

If you don't like dance music then I doubt you'll appreciate remixes.

No problem, D. Making sweeping generalizations is my job.
