My Sennheiser PX-200s that I got for Christmas. I have been depressed ever since. So now I have a decision to make: should I get a new pair of PX-200s or try out something else. I really like the PX-200s, but are there any others out there that are lightweight, affordable, and sound great?

I'd get 'em again, or try the PX-100, which I love. They are open, but really don't leak a ton of sound. I wear them at work all the time.

The Koss PortaPros are nice, bass heavier than the PX-100, but mine broke on me pretty early into their run. The actual ear part is only held to the frame by a little piece of snap-in plastic.

You learn something new everyday:

What is Bitumen?

Image

Hot bitumen has been laid on this road.

Bitumen is a tar-like substance. It is one of the things we get from crude oil in an oil refinery. It is made from the residue left in in the still.

A lot of bitumen is also found buried in sand in Canada. It is too thick and sticky to flow through pipelines. It has to be mined by digging or by heating it with steam. This melt it while it is still underground.

Bitumen is used for road surfacing and for roofing. It has to be heated to melt it. It is made from the residue left at the bottom of the still.

I dropped my iPod on Sunday. The headphone jack stopped working. Having been past warranty, I took it apart to see if I could do something. Nope. RIP.

These are my headphones - Beyer Dynamic DTX900's. They were about £50 ($100). I have no idea if they are any good* because when I have headphones on I play my music at extremely high distortion levels. My cochlea doesn't like me but boo sucks to him!

They are comfy though, especially the headband.

*I tried a few different pairs on in the Hi-Fi shop and they seemed to me the best ones in that price range.

You shouldn't leave your headphones on the floor, you know.

...were my headphones... until my cat decided to take a little nibble on the wire. Frickin' cat. That sweet creature has destroyed so much music and computer gear, it's insane.

I've made a horrible mistake. I lost my pretty nice $40 Sorny in-ear earbuds and I was pissed and didn't want to spend that much again so I bought a $10 pair at Radio Shack. So foolish. The sound isn't actually bad, but they fit in my ear so that the music doesn't point at my earhole, so I have to turn it way up and still don't get the full range of sound.

Who can recommend a good pair of in-ear-buds that are inexpensive?

You can probably splice the wires back together with a little stripping and electrical tape... I doubt there would be much noticable signal loss.

Sennheiser makes a set that runs around $15-$20 that aren't bad. To find out all the info you'll ever need on headphones, headphone amps, etc....check this site out:

Damn it. I knew what that was, and that someone was going to ask what it was.
We use it as a roofing material because it is waterproof. Then it gets some gravel on it, which is there to protect the bitumen covering from UV decay and breakdown.

Aaron,

I got a pair of these Image and like them a bunch.
The earbuds would fall out of me ear a lot, when I was walking fast or running to catch the train, but these bastards stay in.
Johanna has since stole them and uses them when she goes to the gym.
They are cheap, but do the trick for me.

Thanks. Yeah. I tried to do that but it didn't seem to work.
Maybe I should try again.

Anyone have suggestions for ways to prevent kitties from nibbling wires?

Destroyed so far:
- 1 computer mouse
- 1 power adapter for my scanner...which couldn't be replaced.
- 1 $20 printer cable
- 1 pair of $40 headphones
- 1 VCR power cable (can't be replaced)
- aprox 3 lamps
- about 2000000 phone cords

Bad kitty

...guess my avatar is pretty apropos

Is the word "asphault" no longer cool or something?

we don't use the word 'aspault', we say 'bitumen' instead. We go to the 'toilet' not the bathroom (we tell it how it is, instead of trying to gloss over the fact that you're taking a dump), we use 'taps' not 'fausets', we walk on 'footpaths' not 'sidewalks'. Sorry, next time i'll try to sound more American...

I did see a doo-hickey that wrapped up excessive headphone cord lengths that was neat-o and I was meaning to buy it, but never got around to it. I think they were at Crate and Barrell.

Me and Bloor used to have some sweet headphones back in the day until either his dog (Hershal), Hershal's Mom (Thunder), or Hershal's Dad (Nesta) destroyed them both. Damn shame.
