I mean... Tom's never had anything as cool as "Star Trek stuntman" on his resume. http://www.luckykazoo.com/media/2005/04/america-we-stand-as-one.html

(jaw hits keyboard)...

Let's see, is everything here?

Flags-per-second ratio = 1.3... check.
Eagles? Check.
Angels? Check.
Firefighters carrying victims in the clouds? Check.
Baby looking at tombstone? Check.
More Angels? Ohhh Check!
Mysterious Handshake in the clouds? Check.
Every known cliche in lyrics? Check.

Well, that oughtta do it.

I've always wanted to know what it is "we stand as," and who exactly we're standing against and how it makes us "one."

The answer never makes much sense. Some vagary about a united front against evil, which can't be attained, retained, defined, maintained or explained.

I'm perfectly happy to stand somewhere but this whole "as one" thing just ends in foot trampling, no personal space and close proximity to bad breath.

David Cross addresses this nicely on one of his standup albums. In one sequence, he asks an imaginary SUV driving mom about her bumper stickers...
"That ribbon sticker, what does doe it mean to you, really?" (In righteous woman's voice) "It means ... yoo-Nited we Stand!"
"No, no, I mean in your own words, what does it stand for to you, personally?" "....It means these colors do NOT Run!" "Ok nevermind." It's just a club.

I've always thought it was a nice way for people to alleviate their guilt that somone else is getting shot for whatever ideals they think they need to uphold.

After watching that, I am too. Find one other country, aside from 1938 Germany, that'd make a video like that. You shouldn't be your own biggest cheerleader.

"Hooray for us!!!"

Did you know that actress Frances Farmer's mother once cross-bred a red, white and blue chicken and lobbied Congress to have it named our national bird?

No wonder Frances flipped out.

I believe he was the only thing missing from it, upon further reflection.

I like that the guy only had 2 hand gestures. With his palms out like he was pleading for something or making fists of rage.

Just saw this linked thru Wonkette.

Awesome.

Song of the year so far... Fifty's "Candy Shop" runs a distant second.
