I know there are plenty, but here a few I can think of right now.

Beattles - Revolver/White Album
Clash- London Calling
Radiohead - OK Computer
Iggy Pop - The Idiot

Do you not have these because you're not interested or just have never gotten around to buying them? Even though you don't have 'em, have you heard them?

Just curious

I'm only missing one, Crowbar's self-titled 1993 release.

There will always be more books that I want to read than I can actually read and likewise there will always be more albums than I can possibly buy/listen too.

I only owe one Rolling Stones album (Exile), two David Bowie albums (Ziggy Low) and two Bob Dylan albums (Highway, Blood). I guess these are pretty important artists who's back catalogues I should be more familiar with.

I think (I know) that we all have many of these.
It's tough to go to a record store and pick up, for instance, Exile On Main Street or Music From Big Pinki, when there are so many NEW releases that you want to keep up with, as well.

Especially when you name isn't Bill Gates.

I was going to say "most of them," but this will suffice.

I tend to think in the opposite way. eg how could you even consider buying an old 97's album if you don't have "music from the big pink" for example. Or why would you pick up Kayne West if you don't have Nas "Illmatic" or Eric B & Rakim "Paid in Full"

I used to try to stay on top of all the new releases but found that very few of what would be my favorites in a given year would have very long legs into future years. The classics do. I only bought 9 of the Obner's top 100 albums last year (3 of which I ended up selling back) and I think I've only bought 4 new releases in 2005. I still haven't even heard either of the albums that were Obner #1 of the year last year (Arcade fire) or Obner #1 YTD 2005 (Bloc Party). If you guys are still talking about them in a few years, I'll pick 'em up.

I think I'm missing one Jimi Hendrix album that I should probably have, but otherwise I'd probably have to use a pretty broad definition of classic to say I'm missing much. That said, there will always be stuff I'd like to have but don't own.

Generally I buy one new release and two less expensive back catalouge CD's each week but even then it's very difficult to get everything.

Currently I'm trying to pick up most of Sonic Youth's albums (at least the better regarded ones).

It's "The Cult of Cool".
For an example see THIS site.

Yeh, I only own one Beatles album: a vinyl copy of the White album that was given to me by an ex-bf.

If I had picked an album of their's to own it would be Revolver.

I feel a little silly for not owning Joni Mitchell's Blue.

Like some others here I feel a little guilty for not have many full albums by Bowie or the Stones. I love both of them but mainly own compilations.

...and one day I will buy that damn Velvet Underground boxset (!)

At this point, the only stuff I really feel like I should own more of is earlier jazz (I own no Charlie Parker), blues (I have nothing, but like a lot of acoustic, Delta blues a lot), folk (Woody Guthrie, maybe) and hip-hop (I need some EPMD, BDP, possibly some RUN DMC, and maybe some NWA).

Amen!

Unfortunately, the "stuff I'd like to have but don't own" tends to be very expensive at this point. The low hanging fruit has been picked a long time ago.
