I don't know if this is supposed to go in the review area, but I'm breaking the rules. :D

Ok so I started off the weekend by seeing Ted Leo & the Pharmacists on Friday night.... Ted Leo nevers fails to disappoint me, so much energy & style. They played Hearts of Oak, Under the Hedge, Where Have All the Rude Boys Gone, The High Party, and some tracks from the new album- Me & Mia, Counting Down the Hours, Shake the Sheets... and a few other songs I can't remember at the moment. I couldn't stop cracking up though because the bassist totally looked like one of the dudes from Mars Volta with the fro going on. The opening band was uh, best way to describe them? A generic version of Creed. Yeah, I said Creed. It wasn't pleasant.

Anyway, Saturday was the highlight of my totally eargasmic weekend. My friend came through and hooked me up with free passes to ATP- and backstage passes as well, so I was totally stoked on that. I'm bummed I missed Wolf Parade- I was kinda lagging (even though the festival was so close to my house), but got there just in time for Explosions in the Sky. Wow. Thanks to Joe (Hegels) for introducing me to them- because seriously, they made my mind explode. The journey they take you on, it was simply incredible. Black Heart Procession was on after, and they were also very good- haven't really had the chance to check out much of their stuff before, so I need to rectify that. Then went to go check out Sufjan Stevens- it was a great set as well, but a bit too mellow for me at the time. Next up was the Walkmen, awesome awesome awesome. Modest Mouse- another rockin' set, played most of their stuff from Good News (but I'm Moon & Antarctica/Lonesome Crowded West type of gal).

The highlight was: Lou motherfuckin' Reed. Fuck. He played All Tomorrow's Parties, White Light/Blue Heat, Satellite of Love, and ---Walk on the Wild Side---. Tania (Aural) & I were going absolutely fuckin insane, I can't even express how AWESOME it was to hear that live. He also played a few tracks from the Raven, which was okay, but there was this violinist on stage that was jammin'. It was truly a blessing to be backstage and check this out.

So Sunday, got there a little bit later because I had to recover from the drunken debauchery from Sat.... first band I caught was the Shins- and they've gotten way better since the last 2 times I saw them live. I can't wait for their new album to come out, they played a couple of new songs and it sounded really good. After that, went to go see Eagles of Death Metal- totally rocked. I am currently obsessed with "I Only Want You" by them, so it was a lot of fun to see that live. Peaches- ummm, very interesting. She actually puts on a great live show, but she is dirty. She was running around on stage and stripped, then climbed on the speakers and started humping them- it was interesting.

The Flaming Lips!!!! I absolutely love their live shows... they threw these HUGE balloons over the audience- the whole crowd was practically covered in balloons bouncing all over the place, then played Race for the Prize. Other songs were: She Don't Use Jelly, Fight Test, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt. 1 (and it was awesome, it started raining a little bit, but there was this mist over the crowd and everyone was singing, I had one of those "moments") then Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt. 2 (Wayne brought out the nun puppet). The best part was when Wayne asked if anyone was at the Coachella show, and everyone was screaming, "Bring out the bubble!!!!" and he asked, "Should I do it?" and the crowd went crazy- so he got in the bubble and went over the crowd. The last song played was Do You Realize. (There were a couple of other songs also, and Peaches came out to sing one of the songs with the Lips).

So that concludes my rockstar weekend. Yesterday, I was lying down falling asleep and I was just so happy. Now only if Thom Yorke played in my hood....

As much as I love the Flaming Lips, their shows are just stale and barren of any type of earnestness. They've been doing the same set for 2 years now. It's like a tired comedian that has run out of jokes.

that's the problem with having liked jambands, or bands that put on good live shows in general. you become so jaded to bands that don't do interseting things with setlists and mix it up live all the time.
