This debut from the Legends is a damn fun disc. How many are digging this around here?
Up Against The Legends. Not a total rave from me, but 4 out of 5 obners is getting pretty close. Some of it's a blast and some of it's just a little this side of forgettable, but overall I do really like it. Probably won't be near the top of my year end list but definitely top 20 material if you like that [now] somewhat mainstream retro sound of bands like the Vines and Strokes. It's more of the same, but a little more interesting at the same time because of the Jesus and Mary Chain influence like on the much liked BRMC debut. I also wanna hear the debuts from the Futureheads which I have on order and the Earlies which a buddy is sending me, but it seems like lots of good bands are breaking out this year (if you ignore some of that wimpy Snow Patrol type stuff

). Nothing that new, but still lots of fun.
What's your favorite newish band you discovered this year? Doesn't have to be brand new, just recent. I think mine is probably The National...but man-o-man, there's been a ton of good ones in my player like the Flaming Stars (well, that one isn't very new but Sunset & Void is from 2002 and is my first taste) and Arcade Fire and Fiery Furnaces and Devendra Banhart and TV On The Radio and Carina Round and Old Canes and Richmond Fontaine and Animal Collective and Lali Puna and Electrelane and Ghost and Franz Ferdinand and Secret Machines and ... wow, it has been a good year for discoveries! And the much overlooked United States of America debut from 1968 just recently reissued on Sony/Sundazed is by far my reissue of the year. Been playing it tons for the last couple months and loving it. Totally cool and really high quality, from the sonics to the liner notes to the artwork. Real classy.
