This Heat - Deceit (1981)

This is the second and last This Heat album which has been out of print on CD since about 1996. It's pretty much a post-punk/art-rock masterpiece, and it's been featured in a lot of best-of lists, like Pitchfork's Top 100 of the 1980s.

Deceit is a really prickly record. There are harsh guitars, proto-industrial clanging, vocals that are sometimes strained and operatic, other times hushed or in unsettling harmonies, and all sorts of other odd sounds and instrumentations. It's pretty dark, and not really "fun" in the way post-punk bands like Wire, Gang of Four, and PiL often were. Still, I find it to be incredibly rewarding, and it's one of my favorite records.

Check it out if you haven't.

I absolutely love this album... do you have their self-titled one as well, Drinky? Not as good, but damn fine.

Yeah, I've got that and the Peel sessions (is that Health and Efficiency or is it somthing else?), and it's all great stuff.

And I think there's always new Maakies at http://www.maakies.com.

Upon reviewing that site and linking to it, I've realized that I probably need to change my username and avatar as I may be "violating copyright laws".

And just so you know, the first track, "Test Card", is, in fact, supposed to be just silence.

The self-titled album you hooked me up with, DC, is very good. Many thanks.
