I am sitting here in the jury room, surfing wirelessly on my laptop. the question I keep asking myself - would I want these people making decisions about my life?

also, you think they will they want a law student on the jury?

probably not...

I got off easy when I had it last year; out in two hours with no call back.

Wearing that Klan hood to jury selection for a hate crime trial is ALWAYS a good idea.

They picked 17 people out of the 150 there to go ahead and leave BUT come back tomorrow to Gresham (suburb) and serve on a jury out there - so I get to miss 2 days of work. Odds of the trial in Gresham relating in some way to meth - 95%.

(of course I am not going to tell my work I got let out at 11 today)

word.

I had jury duty last week. The case was whether to decide if this guy who had raped 350 boys 1500 times should be let out of the treatment facility he has been in since 1984. THANK GOD they let me go.

yeah, it's not a tough choice but it is a lot of deeply icky evidence to have cluttering up your mind. I was in the catchment for the Jackson trial and am pretty stoked to have didged that bullet.

I had it last friday. I was #37 in a 40 person panel, and they picked the jury +2 alts out of the first 25. It almost seemed like they didn't feel like bothering with the whole panel. Then I got sent home early, it ruled.

As for layers/ law students on a jury, it can definately happen. I can't really see why they'd want you, but there was some article about how lawyers are on more juries lately in amongst all the crap mail the Pa bar association sends me lately. It might depend on the case, and the makeup of the particular panel you're on. but then again, I didn't read the article...

i was called on a triple murder case, and some dude that's in my fantasy football league was one of the assistants to the lawyer . . . so they let me go.

it was a three week trial. i was very lucky.

i did it a couple weeks ago--four day trial. discrimination case--the defended was only guilty of being an asshole so he got off. pretty boring.

Haven't been called since I moved to Atlanta. I'm not complaining.
