Conservatives counter 'Day of Silence'

NEW YORK (AP) -- Irked by the success of the nationwide Day of Silence, which seeks to combat anti-gay bias in schools, conservative activists are launching a counter-event this week called the Day of Truth aimed at mobilizing students who believe homosexuality is sinful.

Participating students are being offered T-shirts with the slogan "The Truth Cannot be Silenced" and cards to pass out to classmates Thursday -- the day following the Day of Silence -- declaring their unwillingness to condone "detrimental personal and social behavior."

The driving force behind the Day of Truth is the Alliance Defense Fund, a Christian legal group that has opposed same-sex marriage and challenged restrictions on religious expression in public schools. The event is endorsed by several influential conservative organizations, including the Christian ministry Focus on the Family and the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission.

I like how the slogan has absolutely nothing to do with the campaign.

Since they are so big on honesty a better T-shirt slogan might be "The Truth We Are A Bunch Of Asshole Bigots Who Hate People In Complete Contravention Of The Teaching Of Jesus"

But I guess they couldn't fit that on.

Seriously what is wrong with these people? Is tolerance really that difficult?

If there is a playground rumble ala West Side Story I bet the gay students are better dancers.

"Irked" is a cute word to use for "minions of D. James Kennedy have been engaged in a comprehensive push to remake this country in their own image while calling it God's."

How come there are never efforts by those stereotyped to put the lie to subject-positive stereotypes? I mean, not all good dancers are gay, and not all gays can dance. Some Asians suck at maths, some Africans are not hung like horses (or even horse-flies!), some Irish cannot hold their liquor....

But, there's no support-group for China-dwelling Ex-pat Black-Irish Lightweights Hung Microscopically who Don't Know Their Multiplication-table.

This leaves me bemused.

I think all stereotypes, good and bad, should be condemned, not just the ones that the stereotyped don't like.

Agreed?

My take on this: WHO CARES?!?! On either side. I would talk during the day of silence and rip up those little cards on the day of truth.

Just shut the fuck up. No one wants to be like you. Tolerant, intolerant, atheist, Christian, or yes, Monger.

Shouldn't these kids be getting older dudes to buy them beer, or at the very least hot boxing someone's car before school?

Apathy is the best policy, I says.
