You finding that is just a Scheer coincidence.

"wish you were dead" was a sweet song. the rest of the album was unsweet. i bet that i can find this album in the first used bin that i look in for under $4. 4AD could do no wrong in my mind back in the day, but i also never thought of Scheer as metal either.

I remember them, but haven't even thought of them since, what, '96? I didn't like the singer much - she had that everychick sorta voice, a soft, breathy glee club chirp - but the band was surprisingly good. I remember thinking they were halfway between grunge and shoegaze, but that description is probably dead wrong now that we're almost a decade removed.

What made you bring'em up?

poptodd's mention of scrawl had me thinking of female-fronted bands from high-school that i really liked, and "scrawl" and "scheer" were similar enough names that they bubbled to the top. then the amg description of them as metal kind of threw me. i'm seconds away from digging out some letters to cleo or something and watching some my so-called life episodes.

This can only be treated by an afternoon of listening to Echobelly, Frente!, Sleeper, Belly, Bandit Queen, Velocity Girl, Drill, and Catatonia.

Letters To Cleo were awesome. I saw them live three times. Too bad her solo stuff has mostly sucked.

Velocity Girl were cool too.

So I decided to Google Sarah Shannon and see what's up. She put out an album in '02 I didn't know about, but more interestingly I found this...

http://www.subpop.com/bands/velocitygirl/sarapoem.html

Sarah Shannon is a goddess.
She's the best thing since sliced bread
If She would let me, with a ring I would wed.
My heart beats for her, my love for her gushes.
If I knew where she lived, I'd stalk her with night vision goggles from her bushes.
I love her more than Saturday morning cartoons,
I love her more than Strawberry Boones.
I love her more than Captain Crunch,
I love her more than Bob Big Boy's Sunday Brunch.
Sarah Shannon is my hero.
I love her more than even F-Zero.
I love her more than anything nerf.
I love her more than Papa Smurf.
I love her more than Star Wars.
I love her more than chocolate, caramels and nugget candy bars.
She's worth more to me than anything of Madonna's.
I love her more than my race car footsie pajamas.
I love her more than Rasco Pico.
I love her more than Richard Greico.
I love her more than even Yoda,
I love her more than A&W Cream Soda.
I think she's smarter than MacGyver,
i'd give my left arm just to be by her.
I love her more than Sour Apple Blow Pops.
I love her more than my mom's stuffed pork chops.
I love her more than B.A. Barakus
I love her more than Michael Dukakis.
For her I'd put on a pig nose, and squeal and snort,
I love her more than People's Court.
I love her more than Joey Lawrence.
I love her more than my wacky Aunt Florence.
If she asked me to I'd drive into Mt. St. Helens
She has nicer hair than Doug LewEllen.
I'd rather watch her than Evil Dead II
I love her more than Winnie The Pooh.
My friend Mark loves her too,
But not nearly as much as I do.

-A. Nonymous

the scheer album has a few hits on it and the rest is filler. but the hits like the aforementioned and i believe "sometimes" were pretty rockin.
