I would like to look into purchasing either one of these rather odd instruments in the Chicagoland area. Thanks! Anyone else is free to chime in as well....
Can't help you on the mellotron, but I can direct you to
http://www.stick.com for the Stick. They aren't sold in retail stores, but you might stumble upon a used one if you're lucky. Most likely you will have to give Stick Enterprises a call about getting one. They do sell used instruments, as Stick players like to get the latest and greatest versions of the Stick. How do I know? I used to play one! A word of advice: don't be tempted to buy a used Stick in a store if you find one. They are very, very delicate and unusual instruments. If it's setup by someone who does not know the nature of the Stick it will not play well, and I can almost guarantee that this will be the case. Be ready to shell out $800 - $1000 for a used one. If you have the time and dedication to learn how to play it, it's a wonderful thing. I didn't, unfortunately, and I sold mine off long ago. I still miss it to this day. Someday, maybe I'll buy another one just to have for fun . . .
