It seems like with old bands, everyone is always wanting them to go back to their roots and be young again. Whenever, people say something like this I usually find myself agreeing with them. Rock n' roll is kind of young person's game. You don't often get the same attitude, emotion, and sense of immediacy with the old-timers.

The reason I bring this up is that I bought that (relatively) new Jello Biafra with the Melvins album. There's this one song that I'm absolutely addicted to called "Enchanted Thoughtfist." And in this song Jello Biafra sounds kind of old and weary. And the lyrics express a lot of self doubt, sort of uncharacteristic for him. It's still a rocking sort of Dead Kennedys-ish song, but slower, more methodical and contemplative. On the rest of the album he yelps and shouts and tries to basically do old school DK type stuff. It's OK. But I keep finding myself wishing he would make a whole album of songs with the more mature vibe that "Enchanted Thoughtfist" has. It just seemed strange. I wasn't sure I'd ever felt that way about an album before.

Anyhoo, as you were...

as i get older, im finding solice in the bands that i used to love when i was younger growing. sure r.e.m. is probably not going to record another 'murmur' and (insert band name here) isnt going to record (there best album) all over again.....

but look at some of these bands, they are still growing and and getting older gracefully:

sonic youth
r.e.m.
bob mould
jeff tweety
flaming lips
frank black

i dont know....i guess im just rambling...

Ike Reilly is one rocking ass 40-something sonofabitch. 'Nuff said.
