I recently discovered the practice of cds having hidden tracks in the index before track 01. i.e. If you play the cd from the beginning and then rewind behind track 01 there is material there. So far I have found this on the following cds:

They Might Be Giants - Factory Showroom
Queens Of The Stone Age - Songs For The Deaf
Super Furry Animals - Out Spaced
Super Furry Animals - Guerrila
Ben Folds Five - What Ever And Ever Amen (reissue) I am not sure if there is one on the original because I recently sold it.

Does anyone know of any other albums that have this feature?

Less than Jake's Losing Streak had a weird ass story on it.

I'm no fan of hidden tracks in general, but I really don't like these.

Cheap Trick's self-titled 1997 album. The "hidden track" is snippets of the other songs on the album.

The X Files "Songs in the Key of X" compilation has extra Nick Cave and Dirty Three songs. In the liners they drop an odd hint: "Nick Cave and the Dirty Three remind you that zero is also a number."

was it true that london calling was the first album with a hidden track? my dad told me that a long time ago.

i believe my first exposure to any hidden track was "nevermind", and when my friend informed me of its existence i was dumbfounded.

I'm ok with this kind of hidden track, because it's truly hidden. The ones at the end are annoying, especially if the last track just runs and runs.

I liked the little interlude on Tom Petty's Full Moon Fever that started out, "Helloooo cd listeners..." and he mentioned that this was time that those listening to albums or cassettes were flipping over the record or tape, then thanks you for you patience. There's also chickens and shit in the background.

I'm not sure about London Calling being the first, I swear I remember some hidden shit on one of my dad's old Black Oak Arkansas records. What about the gibberish at the end of Sgt. Pepper. Does that count?

I agree although the best "end of cd hidden track" is Off The Deep End by "Weird Al" Yankovic in which approximately 10 minutes after the last song you hear him scream loudly for 7 seconds.

Not true. "Train In Vain" was left off the tracklist on the album cover, but as I recall it was listed on the record itself. There were numerous other misprintings like that well before Strummer and Jones and Co.

Monty Python may have been one of the first to deliberately hide a track. I think it was Matching Tie & Handkerchief that had a whole 3rd side of material hidden in the grooves of the LP - so depending where you dropped the needle the same side of the record would play a completely different bunch of skits.

I still have this record and it's genius even today.

The first CD to do one BEFORE the CD was one of the discs on James Brown's Star Time box set.

Also there's a pre-CD track on:
-the new Buck 65
-Public Enemy's Music In Our Mess Age

Gadzooks man, that was no mix up! What you have there is one of the original pressings. Collectors pay BIG money for Nevermind with no bonus track.
