He was the one that I first heard utter the phrase, "excellent songwriting." It was in reference to Uncle Tupelo's first album. We were standing in the living room of his house in Columbia (next door to the campus of Stephen's College, lucky bastards) and what he said made me realize that, while I will probably never be a great guitar player, I can certainly give songwriting a shot.

I think this is the first time that I 've really remembered this.
So, thanks Jeff.
I thank you.
The rest of the world may curse you.
But I don't.

EDIT: Matt is probably ready to quit Hop On Pop at this point. Why should he want to be in a band with a self-loathing looser like me? It's not like we have even sold any CDs for SK to make it worthwhile.

God Damn Hangdog Persona. I wish you'd stop being so damn negative all the time Todd. Just for that, I'll let rip "Whisky Bottle" at top volume and scare the other classrooms... tee hee.

and thanks to Todd, I actually got to hang out with real Jewish kids for the first time in my life (I'm from rural Missouri folks). I remember walking into his Jewish Fraternity at MU and feeling freakishly tall and blond. Yet still, they all made me feel like a member of the tribe, and let our band play a party. It was fun 'til the cops came.

I miss you Todd, and if I can swing it, I'm coming to Chicago late this summer for a visit Damn it.
