i met my new "future" husband last night. meet justin harris from menomena.

Image

menomena (from portland) is my new music obsession, they are AWESOME. went to go see them last night, and it was an amazing show. justin plays the bass & sax & vocals, the drummer danny rocks (also vocals), and brent plays the guitar/keyboard/xylophone/vocals. it's too bad that there were only 40-50 people in the crowd (everyone was there for the opening band, and left before they came on)... but these guys put their heart into the show.

really genuine, nice guys too. they're opening for gang of four on 5 of the west coast shows. i highly recommend checking them out if you get the chance.

la heads- they'll be playing spaceland in june. tania, i think you would REALLY dig these guys.

here's a YSI of one of the tracks off the ep, but the album "i am the fun blame monster" is MUCH better. especially when justin plays the sax.

i actually thought this was gonna be about that guy from Amusement Parks on Fire for some reason.

I really liked I Am the Fun Blame Monster, when was the EP released?

eh, some guy from Nottingham who plays all the instruments on his band's album (making him more of a new Billy Corgan, i guess) that I keep mistaking for a Bends-era Yorke in magazines. I'm sure one of your europosters could elaborate more

we tried to get on a show with them, since we have some connections to menomena going way back, but it didn't happen, but it will!

and when it does, i will describe to them in measured detail ms. pumachik.

i saw these guys open up for Hood and I thought they were awesome. The one record store down here (Spaceboy) raves about this band all the time. not bad at all.

is it me or do you wanna punch most of the Spaceboy staff in the throat? I might've gotten a lot better, but the last time i was there it was just annoying.

hahaha, no, it's not just you. i don't go there that often any more because it's kind of annoying trying to listen to those guys babble on and on. and half the time they make no sense and aren't very helpful when you have questions.

Is this the "Happiness is Shouting Bingo!" EP? I have three songs that they'd posted on their site from that - are there more on yours?

Their site has a bunch of non-album mp3s you can download here. If you don't have a seizure first . . . wow, is that an ugly website. Very cool band, however.

I am the Fun Blame Monster has some of the best album artwork ever. Love to see the great NW reprazentin' here. Menomena are fantastic and are great guys on top of that. Strongest Man in the World from the full length is one of my favorite songs ever.

I think they told me June 10th or 12th... but the Spaceland website doesn't say anything and neither does their band website, so I'll keep you posted.

And dude... why couldn't I be going to Seattle on the 6th instead of the 7th?!?! Menomena/Radio 4 opening for Gang of Four @ the Showbox. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Please God, no.... can we just bury the sax already? We're not ready to head in that direction yet.... although it's inevitable, if this whole music thing is cyclic... Bring on the Spandu Ballets and everything else that sucked about the Eighties.... including the shitty horns that everybody started slapping over their blazé cocaine-filtered productions......

You have to see how Menomena use it. I agree in general, but they pull it off.

That's what I get for not reading the whole thing. haha. I have been shushed.

On a related note, I just got myself a listen recently to this here band Menomena. I like the song Strongest Man in the World or whatever it's called. But, my haven of music loveliness had no copies of theirs.

potential groupie alert!

sorry, but I always think of bags filled with water that one inserts into the rectum when I hear this band's name.

I always think of muppets singing along with Italian porn music when I hear this band's name.
