(speaking of birthdays) how many of you office drones actually bring in food (bagels, donuts, cake, etc) to announce to the rest of the office that it's your b-day?

i don't do this.

I haven't yet but I'm going to start. Excellent idea. Since my birthday is in December, it's always forgotten because of Christmas and New Year's. I'm bringing my own cake this year.

I don't. Come to think of it, I don't think my co-workers know when my birthday is.

The Office manager here keeps a list of everyones b-day, so that they can have a card and cake available for them on their 'special day'. i refuse to participate.

My family did this for me. They sent a massive cookie-gram. Fuck, I'm spoiled.

I think that's pretty pathetic to bring in food because it's YOUR birthday. I'd fucking laugh at soemone if they did that. But that's just me.

That's the only reason to do it. It's not because I think I deserve it or anything, it's just funny to bring in cake on your own birthday.

My company designates one day of the month and they'll bring in a ton of cakes, cookies, pies, whatever for everyone's birthday that month. And they write your name in big letters on the board so everyone knows whose birthday is on the current month.

yeah, we do pretty much the same thing. no one takes it seriously as a b-day celebration though, which is honestly quite a relief. instead, it's "hey, what kind of cake did xyz people get this time?" hell, it's even called "cake day," not "birthdays observed" or something silly.

"cake day" = "holiday festival" of the office world?

"Ok, but last time I didnt recieve a piece and I was told..."

"hey guys i brought in food for everybody."
"what's the occasion?"
"it's my birthday."
"oh how nice. well, happy birthday."

yeah, great trade-off: i fill your belly with goodies and all i get is a b-day greeting. i'm just not one to draw attention to myself. some pple might be hard up for it. it's a nice gesture but it's an odd custom.

No way I would do this. I prefer my colleagues think of me as an impersonal drone.

in our office if someone finds out it's your birthday, word spreads and your pretty much forced to go out an buy a cake. i haven't let anyone know when mine is so i've avoided having to do this.
