I'm looking for software to record a real player stream and turn it into an mp3 that I can play on my ipod. Preferably free or cheap w/o spyware and the ability to split tracks. Anyone got a suggestion?

you, sir/ma'am, are looking for audio hijack.

it's $16 to buy, but the free download allows you to record for 10 minutes (i think) before the quality of the sound begins to degrade.

The new Replay Music is my favorite. It allows all of this, and I must have used it for out 30 gigs of various stuff, just as you are describing. I record at 256kbps and the sound quality is excellent.

I've tried replay and it's great, except it won't record a real player stream and it's a bit more than I want to spend. The hijack audio looked very promising except it only runs on mac OS X. I have PC w/ XP. The other one looked like it didn't have very many features and it would cost me about $20 for each addtional feature I wanted to add on.

I'm trying to record NPR radio shows. Help a brotha out.

all you need to do is record the audio off the soundcard, right? there's gotta be a million free programs that can do this. i've used goldwave to do this before.

I don't want a crap load of spyware on my computer. I want a proven recorder that transfer's real player/wmp/ and itunes/quicktime streams into mp3's that I can play on my ipod. Replay music is the best, but I've d/led the demo and I can't get it to record real player streams, which is what my favorite radio show is streamed via.

How about this one?

http://www.looprecorder.de/

It's not free, but works good.
I also have a free mp3 splitter if you need that too.
I have been meaning to get this loop recorder for awhile.
