Saw them Friday night and they were cpmpletely amazing. They played almost everything from the frist three records and had more energy than most bands I watch live at twice their age. Menomena opening the show were fantastic as well, Radio 4 in between were laughable.

If Gang of Four comes to your town, pay any price to see them.

I may snag tickets for their Thursday show at Metro. If it's anything like the Slint show, I'll have no problem getting a ticket for $10 or so in front of the venue.

I'd never heard Gang of Four until Coachella. I watched their set cause I keep seeing them praised here over and over again. It was OK I guess. I was pretty indifferent. Isn't their magnum opus supposed to be Entertainment! or something?

Yes. Solid Gold and the Peel Sessions are quite good, too (although the Peel Sessions can be hard to find). Everything that came after that was awful, especially Hard.

I actually really got into Radio 4 last time I saw them. (two months ago maybe) I don't know Gang of Four, but I guess Radio 4 owes everything to them, correct? I'd actually like to catch Radio 4 again and I've been thinking about hitting the Metro show.

Ummmm, hellooooooo, "Songs Of The Free," if only for "We Live As We Dream Alone".

And that Peel Sessions disk is stellar. The version of "I Found That Essence Rare" is IMHBSIO the best thing they ever recorded.

"Mall" is a decent but not great album, it's got some finer moments that make it worthwhile.

I actually quite enjoyed Radio 4's show. And I didn't know anything by them either. They're one of those bands that have been on my list to "check out" that I just haven't gotten to yet.

i'll be at the metro show on thursday. i'm really looking forward to it.

and one of my biggest record shopping blunders ever was passing on gang of four's peel session for, like, $10 some years ago. i have no idea what i ended up with that day, but i can't imagine it measures up to that peel session.

MAN! If only I came up to Seattle on Friday night instead of Saturday... I would've been there. (And I'm REALLY jealous you got to see Menomena. I have to wait until mid-June. *sigh*)

I've found out that Entertainment! is to be reissued soon. Which means that I no longer have to look at that annoying $23 price tag at my local Indie As Fuck recordstore.

There's a chance it might not get re-issued from what I heard (my friend works at Rhino)...

The reissue of Entertainment was reviewed in Rolling Stone, given ****1/2. Bastards.

unaware of any looming reunion or reissue, a few months ago i picked up "entertainment" off some random import cd seller on amazon for ridiculously cheap. i mean like 10-13 bucks cheap.

Is Entertainment! currently out of print (until the Rhino reissue hits shelves)? I picked up a used copy years ago for $7 or so, but I always see new copies for under $12 at the store around the corner.

I think it's widely available as an import, but it's been OOP in the US for some time.
