It's time to create.

I'm having trouble getting my computer to recognize my Casio WK1630 keyboard. I have a USB MIDI interface that I'm using to connect the Casio to my Sony Vaio. I'm about 100% sure the driver for the interface is installed correctly, but when it's connected I can't see it under my computer. Maybe it is in there right and it just doesn't show up. I tried to record using Cool Edit 2000 but nothing happened when I attempted to rock the keys. (i can record in Cool Edit, right?)

What programs do you all recommend using to record very basic songs using only my keyboard. No mic action...yet. THANKS!

Try the 1/4 inch line out/headphone jack into your sound card's 1/8 inch line in jack.

There wasn't alot online about the specs of this keyboard. Doesn't look like Casio makes it anymore.

So you've got the midi out on the keyboard running to the usb/midi interface, interface to the USB port on the computer, and returning through the interface's MIDI Out back to the keyboard's midi in?

If that's the case, your cables are all good, blah blah blah, i'd check out cool edit's website for more info maybe.

I don't know Cool Edit, but I don't know if a Midi device like your keyboard will automatically show up in My Computer like a mouse would . I think you're going to have to specifically select the keyboard's midi driver as an input in Cool Edit for this to work, but again, I don't know how you do it. It would be unlikely that Cool Edit would just automatically reflect input from the midi device without your intervention though.

Well i just unhooked my Ozone, and then plugged it back in, and XP said, new hardware found: M-Audio Ozone. Has XP done anything similar to you?

Do what Haq said and check your preferences in cool edit.

Thanks for the input guys. It's appreciated! I'm going to check this in a minute.

EPA...how is that OZone? What program/setup do you use it with? I've been looking at M-Audio stuff lately.

Last night when I plugged in the Casio, XP did find new hardware which I then installed the appropriate driver i nabbed from the interface's website.

I think I have this setup right because in Cool Edit under the MIDI Out there is a drop down menu and the name of my interface showed up, but I still can't get anything to record. Does anyone know of a simple program I can download to record simple stuff? Thanks!

Is there an option called auto input monitoring? try flipping that on and off.

cool edit is pretty tame.
