Driving in this a.m., I was listening to the radio and CSN's "Teach Your Children" came on. I almost changed the station, as I didn't think that I needed to hear that sappy tune one more time, but for some reason I left it on.

Teach your children well
Their private hell
Will surely go by
And feed
Them all your dreams...

Don't you ever ask them why
If they told you
You would cry
So just look at them and sigh

And know they love you...

Teach your parents well
Their parents' hell
Will slowly go by
And feed
Them all your dreams...

Don't you ever ask them why
If they told you
You would cry
So just look at them and sigh

And know they love you...

I literally broke down in tears.
I got it.
I KNOW my parents and I know that they know me, and have ALWAYS known me, because they used to be me, much as I used to be my children.

I get it.

There are still tears in my eyes, as I am writing this.
But I wanted to share.

And thanks for being my friends and my online shrink.

Yeah, there's a lot there in just a few lyrics.

Sometimes the private hell doesn't "go by" but the best you can do is be positive and loving, pretty much.

I blame the brain surgery. Not to detract from family sentiments and whatnot, but that song is awful.

I think I can out sappy that with a song that always gets to me-Cats In The Cradle

And it's not like I grew up in a situation that in any way mirrored that.

Anyway, big ups to PopTodd for never being afraid to share his emotions here. We guys sometimes have a hard time with that stuff.

I actually think it's a really great song. It's been made awful because it's associated with "Adult Contemporary" now but CS&N had some good stuff way back when our parents were teaching us well...

It is CS&N right?

Actually, I think it's CSNY.
But yeah... same sound (except when Neil's singing).

When I get home, I'm going to throw on Ian Dury's "My Old Man" for you. Infinitely better.

I don't need some gun-totin' drug addict who's on his fifth liver telling me how to raise my kid.

Apparently, one of the best live performers out there... very engaging and conversational with his audience.

"You Got Gold" is probably my favorite tune of his, although "Illegal Smile" IS a classic. :D

I just 'got' milk and a loaf.

That made me cry because I 'got' them at the local Pakistani owned corner shop and they charged me about £3 for them.

The song that gets to me, every damn time I hear it, is "Color Him Father" by The Winstons.

Tribute by stepkid to a kind stepfather who raises the kids after the biological father is killed in Vietnam.
