7.5/ 8.8/8.4

From Nitsuh Abebe via ILM:

I originally put Faith a little higher, but then I wanted to leave myself room for (a) future reissues and (b) my first six albums, which will all be superb, though varying just enough in quality to fill up the whole 9.4-10.0 range. The first of those is contingent on my decision, listening through the first four reissues, that I'm actually more impressed by the whole fantasy-world teenage-beloved pop band that Cure became later. The early records have more of the serious-music style that impresses people now, more of the rawness and quirk and chic struggling-to-create vibe. But those later ones accomplished stuff that I honestly can't think of any other band competing with.

Those scores ended up being surprisingly reasonable.

They started out strong and just became better and better songwriters as time went on. To this day, I still think Wish and Bloodflowers are almost as brilliant as Kiss Me and Disintegration.

So, we're to gather that your generation lasted for 36 seconds, sometime in November 1985?

It's not that I'm not full of love. I just get torqued off when someone makes some bombastic statement like The Cure is the best band of my generation. The Cure are contemporaries of my generation, and I don't find them to be that good at all. Ditto U2, ditto Nirvana, ditto a lot of crap. I choose to confront hyperbole with sarcasm.

Now, if our friend Bee had offered up Debbie Gibson, well...that's a different story.

Whenever you see the word "Best" you should read "My Favorite" in the realm of art there's really no objective Best. We have this debate over and over.

Save your scorn for silly statements like "Wish" can stand up to early Cure or that "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me" is one of the early great Cure albums that should be offered up for comparison purposes. Both of those albums are crap even if Kiss Me had a few good songs on it. Two biggest warts on The Cure's otherwise pretty stellar catalog.

Heh, heh.

I like both and don't think they're warts. Don't think they're the best ones at all, either. Still, songs like "How Beautiful You Are" are very good. If they'd gotten rid of aimless moaning stuff like "The Snakepit" it'd be much better.

billy and bill, warts are people, too.

Okay, maybe not...

The Cure are the best.

I heart Bobby Smith.
