i can't believe that nobody's been talking about this over here today. I've got lots of mixed feelings about it, but you'd think it would be a pretty hot topic regardless.

well, the good news (ahem) here, if you favor a less editorially-centralized NPR, is that the NPR system is actually highly decentralized and full of a *lot* of legacy and patronage hires. so if the GOP folks are sitting there thinking they will be able to dramatically change the culture and profile of local NPR stations, they have quite a fight on their hands.

anyhow, the mere suggestion that NPR should shift over to "having more music" isn't helping anyone, ya know? i'd be happy to hear some of tucker or bill kristol's less sensationalist stuff in place of Daniel Shore's often apologist liberal perspectives. not that i disagree with him, but i'm all in favor of more well-considered opinions and ideas--not more classical music.

also, this past weekend's This American Life - the "love terrorist" story in particular - was the entertainment highlight of our weekend. the part where he ends up on the V. Rumsfeld's doorstep...bahahhahha.

okay...

you see, this is what happens when you twist the rules for your own benefit....

republicans that are currently considering the "nuclear option" because the american minority is a nucience take note:

YOU overturned the fairness doctrine (using the fcc) your hero ronald reagan veto'ed it when it was passed by the house and senate.

now republicans are upset because there fail to see any fairness in broadcasting?

Honestly, this kinda crap is why I don't think the gubment should be involved with arts funding at all in the first place. It always ends up with people from one side or the other trying to decide what's "art" - which is a sucker bet at best.

Other than that, it won't affect me one way or the other...music is all I listen to on public radio, anyway. 99.99999999999% of the non-music programming bores me to fucking TEARS.
