I've never seen it, and I love the prison film genre.

FUCK NO.

You should buy it. A classic. Steve McQueen = A GOD. and Hoffman's teeth alone make his performance brilliant.

Plus, I love the 60s hippie interlude in the middle. Awesome flick.

Weird, I just rented this. It seems to drag out at times, but it's done in a manner that's essential for telling this particular story in the prison environment. It's a good movie that's definitely worth seeing at least once. It solidifies the reputation of Steve McQueen being the coolest mofo in American film.

You ever seen this flick? One of the most open Billy sections of a movie I've ever seen.

Modem -- rent Platoon, bro. Casualties of War is pretty meh, mainly because of Penn's "intensity" (read: overacting) and the high unbelievability factor of MJFox as any kind of soldier.

If it weren't for Spiccoli and Davey Kleinfeld I would never give this guy a second look.

Seriously, his and Tim Robbins preformances in Mystic River might be the worst I have ever seen in a film that is purported to be good.

It's a good, not great film. Worth seeing.

Ditto Loogar's take on Casualties of War.

Watched Papillon last night. Enjoyed it. It was a little long, but otherwise no complaints.

Suddenly, a Steve Mcqueen fan,

Modem.

Add The Great Escape, the bonus there is watching Bronson kick ass throughout.

McQueen is a big favorite of mine, dare I say my favorite actor. I figure its only time before a biopic is made. The guy personified masculinity. His acting was great, but it was that swagger, that way he carried himself whenever you see footage, or even photographs. Not many public personalities can do that. He was always "on".

If you've never seen a McQueen film, do yourself a favor and rent Sand Pebbles, Bullit, or Great Escape.

Also, TEH GETAWAY, the first 2/3 of which was filmed almost entirely in my hometown, back when I was like 5-6 years old. To this day, anytime McQueen is mentioned or is on TV, my Mom retells the story of how he came roaring up in his '67 Mustang while we sat in our car waiting for my Dad to come out of the liquor store. Steve apparently also needed to stock up on his liquid refreshment, as well.

Everything up to and including the bank robbery was shot there. In fact, the street they drive down when fleeing the scene of the crime is the actual street I grew up on. When they blow up the parking lot of that convenience store and crash into the porch of that house, that was literally two blocks from where I lived from 1976-85. My first "job" ($5.00 a pop for sweeping/mopping spot duty) was in that very convenience store (Sac-N-Pac). And the swimming hole where McQueen and McGraw dive in after he gets out of prison is where I got arrested for trespassing the day before Fast Times at Ridgemont High opened in theaters.

Just watched this again for the millionth time on cable a couple of weeks ago. Good times...

So, yeah, TEH GETAWAY.
