No jazz players, please. Of if they are, they must have a signifigant body of work in the Rock/Pop arena.

Piano, organ, synth, whatever, as long as you play it with black and white keys laid out pianistaccly.

•Steve Nieve (he inspired this thread)
•Bob Andrews (Brinsley Schwarz)
•Garth Hudson (The Band)

I like your choices, Todd, but let's not forget:

Bob Wiseman

and the late, great Johnnie Johnson

If only for "Bound To Fail" and "Cary's Here" alone!

Garth Hudson seems like a decent answer. I tend to like the keys to take more of a back seat supporting role though so when I like them they don't always make a strong, memorable impression. Tom Waits has great piano in a lot of his music, which I assume is always him playing but I can't say I've ever read the liner notes to prove that out.

Steve Nieve is probably one of my least favorites. I really want to punch him in the face for his playing on songs like Pump It Up and Radio Radio. Some of Costello's best songwriting but I can bearly stand listening to it cause I hate the keys so much.

After having just seen Ben Folds for the first time recently, I'll second that nomination.

Ed Harcourt(well of course I'd say him, just listen to Wind through the Trees)

I've blanked on this subject which is rather amusing if you ask me because keys are my fav parts of songs. I'll come back to this later.

But in the meantime, if Matt can mention himself, I'm going to bring up my husband, Josh Boisvert-Riviera

Actually, Todd was joking around. He already knows who my favorite keyboard player is, I just didn't want to mention it in this thread.

Ray Manzarek is the only reason The Doors were ever worth listening to, as he was a bad-ass on the organ. As I understand it, he's a Grade A prick in real life, but I shan't allow his personality to penalize his playing. Whoever played keys for The Zombies was also superb.

Oh, and please give it up for the Lord of the Farfisa...Augie Meyers!!!

Short of the pyrotechnics guys (Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, Jordan Rudess, et al), I'm better than most anything I've heard on the radio. And that's just downright depressing.
